Golf Lessons

Hello all!

I have been playing golf for about 2 years now, but don't know my exact handicap. I average a score or 95-100 on 18 so not so great obviously.

Anyway, I've self taught myself about all I can i think, and am looking for some lessons or even some type of camp/academy to attend. Do you guys have any recommendations or personal experiences with anything such as thing?

I have Googled some things but would be interested in some first hand opinions.

What ever you do dont go to a three day camp or academy. I got a buddy that sounds like you. He shot in the high 80's and low 90's and signed up for an intensive 3 day golf academy - 8 hours a day. It was the full package - swing analysis on the video camera short game course management swing overhall the works. He came back and in the two years since has not shot under 100. He ususally shots in the 120's now.

The first problem was that they tried to take his unusal swing that mostly worked for him (he's 6'6" and 290) and give him an Adam Scott swing which his body just could not do. Then when he got home there was no follow up with anyone so he ended up trying the 100 swing tips they gave him and it destroyed his swing.

Best way is to take the $500 and sign up for a one on one lesson once a week ($30 per hour)with your local pro if you like the guy/gal and work on small things that might improve your overall score. That way you have someone to check in with as you progress.

1 on 1 lessons on the range, then eventually 9 hole lessons on the course. This is what I've been doing for the last month and it has been very enlightening. You will be shocked at all the things you are doing incorrectly. After my first lesson, I played 9 holes with my brother, and I was terrible. I had too many things going through my mind... but after a little more practice, everything has started to click, and I can't wait for my next lesson! Get out there as soon as possible.

Go to your local pro shop and ask, for lesson or where to inquire about getting lessons best money i've spent, just wish i would of done it years ago, iam 50 now but its never to late to learn the right way, and get help to.

I agree with this, it would be my advice also.

I went to the local CC and had my second lesson with the PGA Pro today. Best $75 I've spent on my game yet!!!!

I just started taking lessons too. I have had two so far. He uses video and, boy is it an eye opener to actually see what you look like instead of just feeling your way through. I highly recommend an instructor who uses video.

Many times I have taken a swing and thought that it was great, only to find it was no where near where he wanted me to be.

Hey,

I was in a pretty similar position (except been playing a bit longer) about 6 months ago and started to get lessons... Couple of observations thus far (after about 8 lessons)

Your game WILL get worse
As your game improves your score may not drop as much as you think it will (hoping it starts to come down soon!)
Get a good teacher that you trust and stop listening to any other advice or tips
Know what you want to get out of it and talk to your coach
Stick with it

Honestly, my HC has gone up by 1-2 points but I am more consistent and am now just waiting for the key round where it all really comes together....
