Don't forget these guys hit the ball on the BUTTON every time.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

My question, is can lag be taught. I play in an old man league and one of the guys says I have a bunch. No idea. I think if you have a good grip, good tempo, lag happens without thought.

The one thing that I think about (not when I am swinging) is to almost try to leave the club behind. If I start with my lower body I produce good shots without the nasty pull over the top shot I have known too well this year.

Im a believer of kinetic energy and lag plays a great deal with storing this energy until the correct time to release it, Read the passage if you would like to see why lag can help create club head speed.

Creating a lot of angle between your hips and shoulders creates lag/clubhead speed/etc. This is created by flexibility.

Many of these guys don't get a lot of hip turn because they can rotate their shoulders so far and maintain their angle. Villegas does this very well. His hips move very slightly while he gets a large shoulder turn, creating a ton of angle. This creates tension in the large body muscles and when released creates a powerful shot with ease.

could you elaborate on how to create angle between your hips and shoulders, and how that creates lag/clubhead speed. Not bustin your balls but lag is the angle between your forearm and club shaft.

Just wondering if more lag equals more distance??

it's all about back/shoulder turn. when you think you're done, turn some more. i know that if i get a good turn and hit the ball on the sweet spot, it's gonna fly pretty damn far. it's not a matter of swinging harder, but swinging quicker. you've got to be relaxed to swing quicker. take a look a quiros. do some back stretches at night and in the mornings, and in little time you'll be more flexible. however, on the flip side, the bigger turn the more things can go wrong, so if you're hitting it 250 down the middle, then i'd leave it at that. personally, i only fully extend when it's a wide open fairway.

    • Day 1: 2026.01.03 Played 18 at Cape Kidnappers. Getting back into it after a few days off. Mixed results.
    • Day 40: short range session. Worked on my drill mostly. Finished with some full swings and driver swings. Range was packed because it was so nice out. Solid session though.
    • Day 5, 1/3/26.  Today was a weird day schedule-wise, but I did find 15 minutes to hit 6-iron shots (indoors, off a mat, into a net).  I also got to thinking about yesterday's round and, other than a few thin shots (that I think were weather/grip related), I didn't have any wild non-driver shots, which was weird for me.  I need to get back to video, which is tough in my setup. Also, this wouldn't count on its own, but anyone reading this and thinking about doing their own 5 minutes daily, check out Fit for Golf's latest podcast episode.  It's only a few minutes and Mike does a great job talking about the importance of doing a bit each day.  That also reminded me, I let my FFG subscription lapse, I'm going to renew it.
