Today, for the first time in many years, i took a divot after hitting an iron shot.

My irons game is some kind of miserable, today was the day i decided that this was enough, so i tried to hit down, the first holes i didn´t get it, in fact, i was hitting irons worse than usual.
So i thought: mmmmm... maybe i am standing too far from the ball, if i get closer, my swing may have a more vertical path, and thus it may be easier for the clubhead to reach the floor.
At the last hole, par 5 against the wind, good drive, good 3 wood as a second shot, and i left a 65 yard shot to the pin (more or less), i took my pw and stood a bit closer to the ball, i made a 3/4 swing without thinking anything at all (i think this helped), just swung, and i hit the ball perfect, right to the pin, and saw the divot flying some yards; the ball ended up about 12 feet from the pin, for birdie, and produced little backspin.

Too bad it was the last hole and couldn´t hit any other iron. But the feeling was very good.

Still some work to do, i know, specially about my left wrist. Anyway i just want to mention all this in order to help other users who may be looking for a better contact when hitting their irons, and don´t know how to achieve it, trying not to be too far from the ball at stance could be a good starting point.

Coming from another "divot virgin", I took a divot yesterday in my back yard and it landed in my pool. It was not fun skimming that outa there, lol. I, too, am starting to try and "hit down" by pointing and pulling the butt end of the club towards the ball on the downswing. Seems to be pretty effective.
