Hi there

I will be visiting by brother in law in Minneapolis next year (I like to plan ahead). Whilst I am there I plan to play a bit of golf. As he doesn't play, does anyone have any recommendations for courses? I am a high handicapper but don't mind a challenge. As long as it doesn't kill me!!!

Also - I can travel so if there's a good course I will go. I will be there for three weeks so can try different places.

Thanks

What kind of $$$ do you want to spend? The Links at Northfork and Logger's Trail are pretty good links style courses for around $40. Keller Golf Course and Bunker Hills are pretty good parkland courses for around $40 as well. For upscale, Troy Burne (in Hudson, Wisconsin) is very nice and so is Stonebrook. If you want play on a budget the Minneapolis city courses aren't too bad either. If you have time for a weekend getaway I'd head up to Giant's Ridge (approx a 4 hour drive north of Minneapolis).

My "home course" is Braemar in Edina (neighboring soutwest suburb of Minneapolis). It is a very nice public course. Play the backside-holes 10-27.

If you want to do a quick executive 9 - Braemar also has that. Additionally, there is a little hidden executive 9 course in Edina that is also owned by Braemer/City of Edina called Fred Richards. An excellent value and typically not very busy.

Dwan in Bloomington (another southwest suburb) is also a nice public course - but is often times very busy.

As mentioned above, the City of Minneapolis has a handful of muni courses. Most are in ok shape and a decent value - but typically pretty busy.

If you want to travel a little bit, I would highly recommend the semi-private course of Mississippi Dunes in Cottage Grove. (about 30 mins south-east of Minneapolis). It is a links style course and sits along side the Mississippi River. Some great scenic holes, nice wild life, very well maintained, and quite challenging.

What I Play:

Hy: Callaway FT 3Hy

Irons: AP1 4-PW

Wedges: Vokey 52* & 60*, Mizuno MP-T 10 58*

Northlinks in Mankato is an OK course. Not great but probably one of the best public courses in the area. There are a couple better courses if you get over to Owatonna or Rochester. Southern Metro has many great courses.

LeSeuer Country Club down towards Mankato is more fun to play than Northlinks

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
