I quite possibly played the most frustrating round of golf ever yesterday. I played with my roommate, his father, and a client all of which where about mid 80's to mid 90's players. I was hitting the ball so well and it seemed every time i missed the fairway it was only by a few feet, but every time i was either under a pine tree, or directly behind it. The guys i was playing with were spraying the ball everywhere and not getting in any trouble at all. In addition, I had 4 eagle putts, and 3 putted all of them, im usually a pretty decent putter. So, i ended up shooting +6, with 3 doubles cuz of pine trees, four 3 putts for pars, and a bunch of birdies and bogeys...

I guess the morale of the story is, if your gunna miss the fairway, be bad enough to miss so much that your in another fairway?

That sounds like Tiger's strategy.

I feel for you but if you went out and shot or tied your best score every time it would get boring.

I started golf at 10 years old, and played until about 5 years ago, so that's 40 years of golf. I restarted this year and am having the most fun ever. I work for a good score, (shot 81 today) which is about my average game. I had a blast: even on 18 when my poorly hit drive hit a nearby tree and actually ended up behind where I teed off. I laughed about it. I also hit my second shot on a 400 yr par 4, with an 8 iron to within 1 foot. It was a thing of beauty perfectly struck, landed 4 feet from the hole and rolled to within 12" of the cup. At the ripe old age of 56 I have learned to enjoy the beautiful course, the well hit shots, the stupid dubs, the challenge of the ball behind the tree, the 30 ft. puts that drop and the 4 footers that don't. I'm not playing the US Open. I'm out to have fun and a little bad luck and a badly hit ball is not going to ruin it.

I know what your saying, I'll have days where I feel like I'm doing everything right and my score will beg to differ.

Sounds like a round I had a few days ago. Every time I was just off the fairway I had a tree to deal with. It was like the trees were a magnet for my ball.

I even smoked a 4-iron on a long par 5, just off to the left a bit in what looked like a pretty wide open area...except for this 1 small tree that of course my ball was right behind. I still got a chip to the green but not at the flag and had to go over a bunker turning a great birdie hole into a par.

It happens.
