I just played my local 9 hole par 3 for the first time in several years. It was nice to return to where I first started to learn the game. Whilst the council doesn't keep it very well holes ranging from 112-192 yards provided a decent challenge.

Today I scored 33, 34 and 31 respectively. So I now have a target to beat 30 and beyond that, who knows?

Does anyone else enjoy their local par 3 as a break from regular golf. Any good scores to report?

We used to have a great par 3 course near me, but it recently closed down. This was beautifully kept, had a lot of water on it, and really made you work on your short game. It was $6 to play 9 holes, and was a lot of fun, but actually pretty tough, especially if your short game is horrible, like mine.

I love to play my par 3. Its such a fun course to play. My best round is a 36. But every time I play thier I drop a stroke or two so I hope to get it to the low 30's.

I started on a course here in Hot Springs AR called Magic Hills. It's A little 9 hole par 3 course (Par 27) the holes are 100-195. I love It! The greens are like little table tops, maybe thirty feet across.

Best ever was 23, I love that course because it makes you hit the greens, because if you don't you will be in trouble, the grass around the greens is sparse and terrible! Ha.

I like to play 18 on a little par-3 here. I'm typically around +2 or so by the end of it. My goal is to break par. I always do better on that course because it eliminates my penalty strokes off the tee. I lose the most strokes in my game from wayward tee shots by far. The last round I lost 10 balls on the first 9 holes. That was a fluky-bad round, but just as an example... I only had 35 putts on the round, which isn't great, but is better than a 2-putt per hole. I always laugh when people say "work on your short game to lower your score" Not me. My short game is not what's holding me back. I'm the one guy who actually needs to work on his driver on the range.

There is an 18 hole par 3 here that is decent enough. The holes are super close together and sort of feels like mini-golf because of that. The holes are generally super short as well to go with smallish greens that are super flat. Average hole is 60-100 yards. It's actually fun though.

So many of the holes are copies of the last you can sort of groove it in. And the greens are so flat 10' putts aren't very scary. I think the long hole is 120 yards or something and the shortest is 40.

On 18 my best is 49, or -5. 1 Bogey and 0 Eagles but quite a few birdies.

I started on a muni par 3 that came thisclose to getting shut down this year. I'd like to get back over there.

What I play now is a par 3 attached to a 9-hole "executive" course. Both are kept in fantastic condition, with greens that make you think if you don't hit it stiff. Its the course of choice for women's leagues here in Omaha, but I find walking it solo for $7 is the best 45 minutes I can spend on my golf game.

Here in Dayton, OH one of the city's municipal courses has a nice 18 hole par 3. This course is on a site with two additional full-length 18 hole courses. The par 3 course is nice because #9 and #18 are par 4s, around 330 and 400 yards, respectively. Of the par 3s, eight of the 16 remaining holes are over 200 yards. So it plays like a little executive course rather than a true par 3 course. The total yardage for 18 holes is about 3800, sometimes it plays shorter.

A sign in the pro shop says the course record is 54. What struck me as curious is that the course record on the 6700 Eagle course on the same site is 63.

I dont think that I could play a par 3 course right now.

I have had too many rounds where my total strokes on the 4 pars 5's were less than the 4 par 3s.

I love playing my 18 hole par 3 course. Used to play it every week before I was good enough to brave the par 72. Still play it occasionally.

Most holes are 100-140 yards, a couple longer and a couple shorter. It's pretty straightforward, only a few bunkers and one water hazard. My best score is 65, which i've shot twice. several other rounds in the 60s. Shot even par 27 on the back nine once. The back is easier but I was really on it that day.

23, now there is a score to aspire to!

I had no birdies today in my rounds and it just goes to show that my idea of playing solid golf is a long way from a sensational round. If I am to be honest the shots that I found acceptable today, where the ball landed in the fringe, were in fact the ones that cost me most. They did not facilitate birdie chances and I was caused to chip so many times that inevitably I'd leave myself a testing putt or two and sometimes miss. As for the short game vs long game argument it is often misrepresented. If you are losing 10 balls a round you have to address that problem. Only when a player keeps the ball in play would it be advisable to focus on the short game where they are dumping off strokes.
