I was looking at the taylormade r7's and noticed that there was a set of taylormade rac OS 2005 irons going for I think it was $290. Does anyone know much or anything about these? Are they any good?... By the way, thanks everyone for all of their help! I don't mean to be annoying with all the questions, its just a decently sized purchase and I want to make sure I make the right decision. Thanks again

You could get the R7s brand new in a retail store for $399 + tax tops. However, if you search EBAY, there are a lot of reputable sellers on there selling the R7s and you can probably get them for closer to $300. If you can do that (and you've hit and like the R7s) then I'd personally say go for that over the 2005 Rac OS.

My final decision came down to the X-22s (which as you can see I chose) and the R7s. Part of me sometimes thinks I maybe should have gone with the R7s. In any event, I think the R7s are a good set. Again, if you've hit them and liked them and they worked for you, you can probably score a set for close to the same (if not the same) cost as the $290 you mention for the Rac OS used set.

denj3325,

Since you're new to the game and possibly don't have a lot of friends who play, try a golf clinic to get yourself started. A bunch of new golfers get together a couple to times a week for group lessons.

Then, follow up with practice and some individual lessons. Your golf swing takes its basic shape by the time you play six times, so learn the correct basics if you want to have fun.

As for clubs, consider starting with a boxed set .
For about $300, you get a starting mix of clubs: maybe a driver and 3-wood, a hybrid or two, and irons 5-9, a couple of wedges, and a putter. (Actual mix varies from set to set). Also, you get a stand bag. Slazenger, Maxfli, and TopFlite are among the companies which make these sets.

If you are of normal height and build, this may be the way to go. I checked this out with NativeTXN , and he agrees it's something to consider.

This set will get you throught the first couple of seasons without all the hassle of having to figure out which mix of clubs you want. Test-hit the clubs - compare the different models - before you buy to make sure they fit your body build.

Focus, connect and follow through!
