Never played it but an irish guy i was paired up with the other day suggested I check this course out:

Best real links courses close to NY are in Ocean city Maryland about a 3 hour drive from Long Island

I hit this course up last week. Fun layout, I really enjoyed it. Definitely not a true links design at all, but there were some fun shots to be made. Greens were absolutely lightning fast. Check it out if you can.

I played The Links at Brigantine Beach for the past few summers, down near Atlantic City. Front nine weren't very links-y, but on the back I was waist deep in the fescue. Worth a play if you're in the area.

You will not get a real appreciation of what a true links is all about by playing any courses in NY, MD or most of the rest of the US. While there are some courses that have some features of a links, the land and overall style of the courses here in the US is almost always nothing like the linksland courses of the UK or Ireland. Even courses like Whistling Starits that look like a links don't play like a links as the soil is different and doesn't allow for the bump and run ground game that a links call for.       First round at Quail Ridge: 47 + 47 = 94 *Note: It was 25+ mph winds with gust in the 35+ mph. It was also around 58 degrees. I felt like I was out in Oregon. The greens were very firm.  Driver was decent. It didn't cause me an issues.  Irons were the biggest issue. Just low point control was lacking. Mostly on the chunky side. Also, my irons were routinely 20-30 yards shorter than normal. Even on holes with a cross wind, the ball was just dying. We played an extra 9 holes after the first 18, and the wind died down by then. I stepped into a 9 iron, and it came up 15 yards short. I have no clue what is going on. I should not be hitting 9 irons 140 yards when I am hitting my driver 300 to 310 yards.  Warmup didn't give me much confidence. I just kept shanking every other iron shot. I didn't shank an iron during the round. I just felt all out of sorts today. Coordinate felt off.  yea, I have no idea if I am purposely slowing down my swing to feel my downswing piece. Again, I hit a decent 9 iron and lost 15 yards of carry. I hope this is just an off day.

      Day 565 - 2026-04-19 Wanted to get home to do some spring cleaning type stuff, so I practiced for about seven or eight minutes and got my butt home. Just backswing stuff, mostly, with freezers and a little downswing feel. Liking the new big mirror I have.
