HEy guys,
I had a question about golf elbow that I posted on the golflink site, but it was pretty inactive so i Googled golf forums and landed here. I'm not sure how this reputation thing works despite reading the threads, so I'll keep posting till i can :)

i play out of the san francisco bay area. Apparently I'm a 22.8, although i think that index was being very generous to me. I'm nowhere that close.

My dad was a golf pro in the country i was from, but i never took an interest in the game. But 8 years later, and 6000 miles away .... now i decide i like it. haha i didn't know pros charged so much :)

I'm looking forward to getting some tips on improving my fairly inconsistent game. But what a lovely game, though.

Welcome to the boards. The short story on reputation is that as long as you aren't a jerk, or at least you're helpful a lot more than you're a jerk, you should be fine, reputation-wise.

Thanks guys.

Fat: I've played all those places, but I'd have to say I've played poplar the most. MOstly cuz it's 500 yards from work and less than a mile from my house. Plus I love how they keep it so beautiful. I like Crystal but it kicks my heiny everytime!

What's your local haunt?

I have my best score to date at Poplar (81) - love the course for that!

I play Lake Chabot, Tilden, Boundary Oak, Alameda (moving there soon), Diablo Creek, Roddy Ranch, Lone Tree, Rancho Solano, Blue Rock, Franklin Canyon. I used to play Crystal a lot but my friend who I played with who lives around there got a membership to PGCC so he only plays there now. I get a free round every month or so, so I'm not complaining! Poplar's a lot of fun -- I have to get back down there.

Man those are a lot of courses I haven't tried except for Tilden and Franklin. I played tilden for the first time last week. Got an internet special for 55 bucks and lunch. It kicked my ass, but i'll definitely play there again. Awesome course.

I didn't like Franklin at all. The fairways were really hard like Crystal. It's the only thing that's not satisfying on that course. Mkes me feel like i'm playing on thin carpet. Hey hit me up when you're in the area. I almost never say no to golf. Elbow or no elbow :) Motley: Advil seems to be what everyone's suggesting. You know, with the chainsaw that puts me right at 14 clubs. Sweet!

+1 on franklin... I don't think I'll be playing that place again.

Roddy ranch has got to be the most underrated course in the bay area, and online tee-times can be had for 20-25 bucks for most times on the weekday. Lone tree is an awesome place to relax and play the 12 dollar twilight. Tilden is awesome, I wish I lived closer and it was a little cheaper, I always bring up tilden first when my buddies want to golf.

    • Played 9 holes, shot a 39.  Kind of got around. Everything between the trees, so in play. Short game was rusty. Got to get back on that. Greens were stupidly slow because they got a lot of rain yesterday and probably couldn't cut them down. Usually in the summer they are firm and pretty fast for how sloped they are. Got to work on face to path a bit.
    • We agree here. Top of the car has a forward force, bottom of the car experiences a backward force via the braking. Both about the COM (somewhere in between). Result is a rotational flip. Since the forward force is still higher the car probably still globally travels forward. Sure, pretty basic. You really think there are deliberate twist forces applied? Like forcing the club head forward and simultaneously forcing grip end in the opposite direction? Heck I don't think we even slow down the grip end deliberately let alone force it the other way. Sorry, if I am missing something here. The orientation change is simple incidental because there is different rate of global movement of grip vs. clubhead throughout the swing. I also happen to think the best swings have the least amount of differential movement between the two end in the impact zone.  In my defense, I never thought one could do justice in covering all aspects of a golf swing in a paragraphs or two to begin with. Especially not with grade school physics..😜 Okay.
    • Wow, @DeadMan that is such a helpful breakdown of what’s around. Really excited to check a bunch of these out. Thank you. Will definitely go to Walnut Creek. Will also try and get a commonground tee time. Haven’t played many Doak courses yet! If your schedule frees up, let me know!
    • Yeah. I'm not sure what Vishal is really talking about with the "constrained" COM. The club's COM doesn't really change much. Less than the body's does… We definitely apply force to the golf club to move it both translationally (linear force) and rotationally (torque) to the golf club. That's what Manzella's alpha/beta/gamma is all about. Even before they switched the reference frame from the global to the club-based one. 😉
    • Any time you apply a force to an object that is not directly through the COM, you're applying a torque. Take a car for example. If a car is moving and you hit the brakes, the only contact point is on the ground. The brakes make the tires slow down which applies a force backwards at ground level. Since that force is not applied directly to the COM, it also applies a torque, which makes the car rotate forwards. The suspension at the front applies another torque upwards to fight against that twist (because the ground is in the way). You can feel the front end of the car dip when you brake. Then, when you stop braking and that force is no longer applied, the tires stop applying that torque to the car and the car feels like it rocks backwards as the suspension evens itself out. That's all torques being applied. Ignoring the twist forces applied to the club leaves you way short of being able to describe the motion. Otherwise the orientation of the club would never change.
