Anyone buy these? I'd love to have the money to drop on a threesome of Vokeys but I have to worry about eating right now. There's a set of Tom Watson wedges at a local shop going for $79. 52*-56*-60*. I don't know much about them though...can anyone enlighten me?

In my stand bag:
9* G10 driver
904F 15* 3 wood
3-PW MP-52 irons
Burner Rescue 19* HybridSpalding 60* lob wedge Tiffany 34"Leupold GX-I rangefinderTitleist Pro V1 ball

I've been intrigued by these sets. Don't know anyone playing them but for that awesome price.....it may be time to experiment.
909D Comp 9.5* (house MATRIX OZIK XCON-6)
Burner Superfast 3 & 5 woods (house MATRIX OZIK XCON-4.8)
G15 Hybrid 23* (AWT shaft)

Yup, my thoughts too Dub.

That's what they were, so I know they're the 2009 model. Interesting that the price is $20 lower than I've seen anywhere else though, and thirty lower than that site.

I looked at the Tom Watson set and Dick's Slazenger Onyx G set. They were both in the same price range. While I was sleeping on my decision for a few days, Father's Day arrived. My wife gave me the Slazengers that day because my 9 year old daughter remembered me looking at them and commenting on how I liked them. They are a great set for me, with the lofts and bounce I needed(GW 52/8, SW 56/12, LW 60/10). I like having a completely matched set of wedges and the black finish is awesome. I have a friend that got the Tom Watson set a few weeks back and he loves them as well. I don't think you can go wrong with three matching wedges in the $100 price range. Of course I don't have a problem using less expensive gear if it does what I need it to do.

In my  Warbird Hot stand bag:
nike.gif Dymo2 Str8 fit 10.5 or  HiBore XLS 10.5,  Steelhead Plus 3 and 5 woods,

 NP2 3H,  DCI 990 4-PW,  Forged + 54/12,  RAC 58/8,

Classic #1,  NXT Tour or  Burner TP

how do they hold spins?

In my Warbird Hot Stand Bag:

They spin the ball just fine.

I've played Watson wedges on and off since the 2006 gunmetal black model. I have 3 sets of them (2006 Gun Metal, 2007 Satins -- my favorite and the chrome 2009 model), I like the shape and balance.

About the only thing I don't like is the Adams grips. First thing I do is re-grip them with Tour Velvets.

Wedges are personal, like putters. If you like the balance and shape of them (including sole shape and bounce), then they will work for you.

What's in my bag (most of the time)

Exotics 12°, Aldila VS Proto 65S

my advice, get a vokey spin mill for whatever your "go to" wedge is and the watsons will be just fine for the other 2.

I only play 2 wedges though

3W:            909F2 15.5* Diamana Blueboard

Wedges:     Vokey Spin Milled 50*/Vokey Spin Milled 58*

Putter:        Studio Select Newport 1.5

You might also consider the Wilson Staff TW9 wedges. For what it's worth, Padraig Harrington uses the 54º and 60º versions.

These wedges come in at about $70 each, somewhere between the 3-wedge sets and the $119 for single Vokey, Callaway, and other high-end wedges.

I have not hit these wedges, nor am I a paid spokesperson for WS. But I've seen them in the stores, and they look promising.

Focus, connect and follow through!

    • My rule of thumb for anything inside a 100 yards is my PW.  Of course, my SW and LW come into the picture when I need to loft it more and especially when I have little green to work with.
    • let me check, I think my volleyball tournament is on 6/21, and we are just driving up and back the same day. I may be masochistic enough to then to play golf on Sunday (6/22). 🤣. 6/21 is 100% out for me.
    • Thank you for sharing that. He was quite good wasn't he? I was curious, so took a look. He played 19 PGA Tour stroke play events in 2000. He was 263 under par (they did point that out at the end of the video). If you look at each event he played in and take the best score in each event for a player not called Tiger Woods, that combined field score was -259. So he beat the field - where the field resets every week - over the course of an entire season. That's mind blowing.
    • If they have the same handicap it doesn't matter what you take 35% and 15% of. If you have two low handicaps, averaging them is generally unwise as I said in my first response: a scratch and an 18 would get 9 strokes, which is silly given that one of the players is scratch.
    • Thank you iacas! Interesting take on 35% on Lower Hdcp and 15% on higher Hdcp. Two questions. Why did you choose 35% & 15%? What would I do with tied Hdcp? Right now I'm just adding the two Hdcp. and dividing by 2. We have just 2 golfers with a low Hdcp. The other 10 golfers are very similar. With what I'm doing now, the highest Hdcp. difference, in a match, is 8 once and 7 twice, Again, Thank you very much!
