Well I played in my first club comp today and it was up there with one of the most nerve racking things I've done. It was a 3 ball format and the guys with me couldn't have been nicer, expalining the rules, etiquette, etc. On my part the nine were played with my head up my backside, even managed an 11 on a par4! Back 9 was a much more relaxed affair, several pars and a couple of one-overs, but I can say I really enjoyed it and can't wait to get back out there. How was your first comp?

Funny thing how you first meet the woman that you marry. I first met the wife in a tunnel of love. She was digging it - Les Dawson

My first competition (opening day tourny for HS) was pretty cool. I shot a 92 with a 9 on the first hole. I was nervous, but every tourny since, I've felt more comfortable and my scores show that (86 and 83 both in rainy/windy weather). You'll be much more comfortable in any competition following...you'll know how things will work and it'll be so much easier. And when you play well, there's no better feeling knowing it was under pressure.

My first competition was absolutely horrible. I played in a group with our clubs two best players and I had no idea who they were. I thought everyone in the club was as good as them. Not to mention they are both super long off the tee. It took a tremendous gut check for me to even finish the round. I was so nervous half the time I thought I was going to puke. Now it's almost five years later and we play together all the time.

I joined the Men's Club at my course back in '89 and I've always enjoyed both the competition and the companionship. I love the low keyed competition that we have within the club... both a desire to win ourselves, and a good feeling when someone else plays well. Once you get over the first time case of the nerves, it's just a lot of fun.

played my first club championship yesterday. It was really rough weather and I was super nervous. Duffed one off the tee on the first (something I do once every 30 rouds if that) then duffed my next shot from the ladys tee's area and ended up with tripple bogey. I did managea few pars, but also 4 putted once and shot 10 over my cap and had my worst round of the year. Given the weather, and the couse was set up hard a few shots over my cap would have been okay but I had a bad round. Still hd lots of fun, hopefully I can play well today and make the cut.

My first experience in competition was a 9 hole stroke play event when I was 8 years old (1980). I played a cut down set of women's Patty Berg irons donated by the boys club, a mish mash of my great grandmother's reject laminate woods, and the only new club I'd ever had which was my very own bullseye putter. I think I shot about 10 or 11 over par and came in second. Didn't feel any pressure because at 8 years of age I don't think the concept exists

My first club comp i was very nervous standing on the first tee playing in a group with a guy that has the local course record of 62 and ended up getting a 7 on the easiest par 4 on the course. But it was a good experience and it can only help my golf game.

They say golf is like life, but don't believe them. Golf is more complicated than that.
