Has anyone hit these J36 Blades? I was messing around with them at the PGA Superstore. They felt so soft and solid at the same time. Who the hell plays Bridgestone clubs, unless they're getting P$A$I$D$.

Any thoughts?

I'm more of a traditionalist with equipment. I like an established reputation, Bridgestone may have one, but I just don't hear people rave about them and I see very few reviews written.

Are they made in Japan?

Fred Couples plays Bridgestone. When I've hit a couple of the Bridgestone irons they had a very crisp feel to them. Whenever I get a new set of irons, which won't be for a few years at least, I'll give them a look.

Bridgestone makes quality stuff. The are just lacking in sales and distribution. That is why you never see them on the course or in every store. I have never heard anything but good things about their irons and wedges. If you are one of the fortunate people who have had the opportunity to hit them and you like them, you won't be making a mistake.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

They are sold at all the major outlets.

What Bridgestone does not do, is add a piece of colorful plastic to the back of the head, and then tell you its the greatest new breakthrough.

I see them quite often on the course. but then again, I am on the course a lot.

Freddy Couples, Charles Howell, Brendt Snekeder (sp) to name a few use Bridgestone. Jim Furyk used them for a while, too. They make really nice equipment. They also own a company called "Tourstage."

They make really nice equipment. Would not trade my hybrid for anything and their golf balls are really good, too.

Precept, too, if I remember correctly.

For all your Bridgestone J36 iron needs :)

I've been looking at them myself, and they look fantastic. Then only thing is, is that they don't go as far as my slingshots. It's because the slingshots have more weight and mass behind the face, which gives it more momentum towards the ball. The J36's don't have all that mass, but they are still awesome clubs nonetheless.

I agree. I refuse to ever use an iron with some extra badge or crazy star pattern cut out on the back. Bridgestone makes some solid irons and I would not be afraid to buy them. Owning two sets of Mizunos and my Miura MacGregors, I tend to prefer Japanese forged irons, though.

Just because they're not marketed in the United States does not mean they're garbage.... :)

Tourstage AKA Bridgestone Golf is a well established company in other markets, particular in Asia. I've read overseas publications that rated tourstage equipment as good as or better than that of the competition overseas.

I currently use the Tourstage V-IQ driver and I absolutely love it (I've owned offerings from Callaway, Honma, Titleist, and Nike).

I love Bridgestone golf balls - the e+6 are the best balls I've tried out of the cheap ones (under $20).

I would try thier clubs. The club companies do a good job of emphasizing thier various technologies but I still feel like it's not rocket science to make a golf club and most companies irons are probably at least decent. I've had a chance to play Pings and knock-off Pings. They feel like different clubs but I can hit my huge, fat slices equally well with either.

EDIT:
after reading the review on wrxgolf, now I really want to try them. They look great and seem like awesome clubs. I like the idea of having something different than everybody else, too.

I've been toying with picking a set up to replace my Cleveland TA6s. They can be had for basically free on eBay. Especially if you're not above playing a used set.

I buy whatever is on sale and matches my game. I have never paid more than $200 for a set of irons. They all work about the same, regardless of whatt he advertiser tell you. The important thing is to find a set that feels good and looks good to you with the proper shaft flex, thats about it. My current set is Wilson Pi5's and it's not too often I see them in anyone else's bag.

    • I was having a decent round (no doubles is a decent rough these days) when I got to eight and hit a drive that looked like it was going into a fairway bunker. I wish it had because, when I got to the ball, it was hanging on the edge of the bunker and I had no stance. I got into the bunker and just tried to baseball swing a wedge to advance it a little but I bounced it about ten yards into deep rough. I still had 185 to the green and envisioned my first double (at best). Probably should have taken my medicine with a wedge, but I pulled my 25 degree hybrid instead. I made good contact with a lot of topspin and it tumbled and rolled all the way to the green where I was able to two putt for a bogie to keep my "decent round" intact. 😎
    • I am in the same boat, a lefty who has played righthanded all my life because my Dad cut down some of his clubs when I was a kid to hit in the back yard. I am completely lefthanded except for golf, baseball and hockey. It took me years to engage my right side in the swing, but I had a killer backhand in tennis. I tried out playing lefty about thirty years ago, but it was very daunting. Length is enticing, and I could hit it farther lefthanded but it went all over the place. I only gave it about a month before I stopped and I should have given it more time because I think it could have worked out, but I was a decent righty at the time (around a 7 index) and wasn't willing to put in the time. I never had a lot of length, but I could keep the ball in front of me and there is something to say about being in the short grass. Good luck. Hit 'em straight!

    • Although the base rules don't make this really clear, the Player must have decided to use Unplayable Ball relief before lifting the ball.  This exact situation is discussed in the Committee Procedures section of the Rules, section 6C(8).  Section 6C addresses how to rule when a Player proceeds under a Rule that does not apply.  Note that 9.4 applies, 9.4 deals with a player moving his ball when no rule allows it.   Rule 9.4 penalizes the Player for lifting his ball when not permitted by the Rules, and requires him to replace it.  Since he dropped and played from a different place, the Wrong Place penalty applies.  As for a serious breach, that would only apply if the Wrong Place gave him a really significant advantage.  Since he could have taken Unplayable Ball relief in essentially the same spot, for just 1 penalty stroke, the Wrong Place penalty of 2 strokes is enough "punishment", there's no need to consider a DQ.
