Ok guys I need some input here. For the last couple years 15 of my friends and I have spent a weekend playing golf up north in Michigan. I think this year myself and 3 others are thinking about changing it up and making a 7-10 days golf road trip out of it. So heres my question, Starting in Michigan and staying within 2 days drive what course would you guys recommend?? I am thinking the main stay of the course is going to be a drive to Bethpage to play the black course, but I wanted to see what other really good public courses are basically between michigan and new york, and along the east coast? It's either that or I am going down to Hilton Head for a week, but I;ve been to Hilton Head a bunch of times and really want to play some courses I will probably not have a chance to play again. Thanks

I'm from MI, but now live in NC... MI is pretty blessed with amazing courses up north at very good prices... but if you must leave the state I would consider...

1) The Sandhills - it's all about the golf: Pinhurst (8 courses), Pine Needles, and a host of classic Donald Ross, Eliss Maples, and other similar tracks. Plus there's a few newer courses sprinkled in and you can find a lot of great golf for decent prices... only downside is there is little else to do in town... so just play 36 a day.

2) Myrtle - lots of good deals and quality tracks... pretty much the capital of golf, and there are a few other diversions available.

3) do both Myrtle and the Sandhills... they are only 2 hrs apart and you could hit one for 3-4 days and the other for 3-4 days.

2 days drive from Michigan. This one's easy, I'd go to Wisconsin next door and play the following:

Whistling Straits (both courses), Blackwolf run (both courses), Erin Hills, The Bog, and The Bull.

Wisconsin has great golf weather July and August.

If you are looking for warmer weather, I'd drive down to Alabama and do the Robert Trent Jones Trail.

May I suggest the Greenbrier in West Virginia? The resort's ownership recently changed hands, so there are plenty of good deals to be had there. There are three courses, including the soon-to-be-Tour-venue Old White, plus a giant bunker designed to be the home of a post-apocalyptic government, which is being turned into a casino! It wouldn't be a bad side trip between Michigan and the Carolinas, either.

I can't play the greenbriar. Nothing against the course, but they just took the only PGA tourney from michigan. I live an hour from Grand Blanc and I went to the Buick Open for years and it really hurt . to see the PGA pluck it out. It really was a fun event to go to, the 17th green is some of the most fun I have ever had at a golf course. But I have looked at some stuff online and it looks like Greenbriar is a top notch place for sure. I'm sure they will have a really nice event there.
