I have recently developed a weird drive and I do not know how to fix it. My first step up to the tee, I blasted it about 310yds down hill of course. Birdied the hole... My irons were working pretty good. I have an outside to inside swing, but the rest of the time driving I would hit a low drive and then it would draw very badly, so a hook. I can not figure it out. It feels like I am pulling up out of my stance and I can not figure out why I am doing that. Is there any reasons why you guys might think I am hitting the ball like this or any drills to stop it? I feel like I am turning to hard through and pulling up out of my stance. Also, maybe i turn my hands over to fast? Maybe if i start trying to hit a fade it will counter act it? I don't know, that's why i am here asking.

Scenario- I am a lefty golfer, I swing outside to inside and I try to start the downswing with my legs. The ball goes like 225 yds but has a nasty draw/hook to the right, like I am not hitting it solid. I typically drive like 280yds. I know its hard to see without a video, but any suggestions would be nice. Thank you.

My buddy I always played with even asked me if my driver was broken, because thats normally the best part of my game. It did sound weird, but I don't think its broken.

Do you know how I can try to fix that? All my clubs I hit have a natural draw, just a little one, but lately its a big draw and I can not figure it out. so to much wrist could make sense

if your swing is outside to in and you hit a "draw" you are really probably playing a mini pull hook. It probably starts straight then hooks later. When it is bad you have to try to hold on and not release the club head as much. Sounds to me like a double cross. If you are a wristy player you will always have consistency problems on your not so good days. Holding the face open is the band aid approach, sounds to me like you are not properly using your body and trying to much to control your shots..

I've been doing the same thing. Was averaging 260-300 for a few months, and I think I got too ahead of myself and started overswinging, resulting in a severe duck hook. I've realized that if I slow down my backswing a tiny bit I can still swing just as hard but I stay on plane longer that way. I'd suggest trying the same thing, it will probably work.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
