I have a set of Nickent 3DX RC irons(they're SGI's) that I've had for about a year and a half. At that time I was only playing a couple times a month, I was a slicer, not very consistant, etc. In other words, perfect for these clubs.

Now I'm a drawer of the golf ball, sometimes I fight a hook actually(even with my Driver). On a side note I think the huge offset these irons have is hurting me a little, especially on the short irons.

These irons also have lower lofts than most other irons sets. One guy I play with, he's about the same HC as me, hits the ball a fair amount higher than me, he plays a draw too(he's a good ballstriker), but I hit my irons a little further I think. He doesn't get anymore spin on the greens than I do though, so is there really any point for me to hit the ball higher? The best way I can describe it is that my ball is more of a piercing trajectory that although it goes lower, it stops just as fast on the greens whereas his shots start off higher, land at a greater angle and have near the same amount of roll out.

Basically what I'm getting at is is it possible to hit irons too low much like too low a launch angle with a driver? Could I be giving up yards with my irons because I hit them too low? Would switching to irons with higher lofts give me the same distance and a higher ballflight or maybe even more yards or do I need to look at some other area of my game?

Maybe my "low ball flight" is just a matter of perspective(which I sometimes suspect) but it's been driving me mad lately wondering if I'm giving up yards. My swing has gotten much better in the last year and a half, but even though I feel like I'm hitting the ball better and better all the time, I don't feel like I'm gaining distance, although I would say my distances are much more consistent.

From my experience super game improvement irons cause me to hit the ball too high. The center of gravity it usually too low on these clubs.

I would have a professional analyze your swing before you do anything drastic like changing your irons.

I would also make sure that you are not swaying towards your target instead of rotating your body through-I sometimes do this and it causes my trajectory to be low.

A good way to test this to get the proper feeling is to setup normally, then take a step to the right...this way you will have the feeling of hitting the ball on the upswing with your driver....hope that helps.

I'm more concerned about my irons right now than my driver, for the record.

Thanks for the tips though.

Usually a little trial and error can help you find out if it is an equipment issue or a swing issue. Move your ball position up a little or make sure you aren't to focused on lag, hitting down etc, inhibiting release and delofting the club. Try a playing partners clubs after a round. Also have you switched to a stiffer shaft?

Which shafts are in your irons? Sometimes, the shafts will promote a certain type of ballflight.

Additionally, how far do you hit your irons, on average? Would you want to sacrifice a few yards for more height? If so, you might want to look at some flighted iron shafts. These might, stress, might, give you the ball flight you are looking for. The list includes:

True Temper Tour Concept Shafts
Nippon Pro Series
Project X Flighted

These are three off the top of my head.

Good luck in your search.

Follow Msokol13's lead and get a professional swing analysis before you get new irons.

Also, you don't tell us key elements about your game:
* What your iron shaft specs are
* How far you hit your clubs

Without this info, we have little to go on.

i'm thoroughly confused by your post. there also seem to be some contradictions...you don't draw the ball, but you fight a hook? either case you are working the ball right to left...play around with your grip (position and pressure, and perhaps even grip size), and you can probably turn that hook into a nice controlled draw.

can you hoist the ball up when you need to? i.e. getting over a tree or something...most people look for ways to get a more penetrating ball flight, knowing that they can get it up high when they need to.

I can't find out exactly what shafts I have because Nickent's website is down, they're moving to a new website but it looks like it's not done yet. The irons have a sticker that says"Nickent 3DX Uni-flex" on them and they also say True Temper on the shafts.

I would possibly sacrifice a few yards for a higher ballflight. Here's my average distances(roughly): 5 iron - 175 6 iron - 165 7 iron - 155 8 iron - 145 9 iron - 135 PW - 120

I used to slice the ball, now I consistently hit a draw, some days I fight a hook. I would like to lessen the draw, get the ball a little straighter. Right now I struggle to hit a fade when I want, it feels like I have to hold off the release forever.

I have experimented a little bit with making my left hand grip slightly weaker, haven't had enough time to get comfortable with it though. I have a hard time hitting the ball higher when I need too. If I have to go over a tree or something I probably hit 1-2 clubs less than most people just because I have a harder time really hoisting the ball up in the air. Here's a video DTL of me hitting a 7-iron(155 yard club). Maybe it's impossible to tell because of the short time you can see the ball, but does this look too low for a 7-iron? Like I said before, maybe I just perceive my trajectory as being low because the guy I play with hits it high, I don't know. http://www.swingacademy.com/videoplayer.aspx?id=3562

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
