So I had my swing mph clocked last year. Out of 10 swings with a driver, I was between 118-123 mph. Because of this, I had a Rifle 7.0 steel shaft installed in my 3-Wood. I didn't feel that I needed the re-shaft, however I assumed I would play better.

I just bought a new driver that came with a stiff shaft. I've used it a few times and I'm hitting it much better than my old driver (that I actually stop using b/c I couldn't control it) and it's going very straight and pretty much where I want it to go. It's nice having a driver again because it's like subtracting a stroke that I would normally get on a par 5.

How big of a difference is there between stiff and x-stiff?
Cheers!

If a shaft creates too much lag, you won't be able to control it so if you swing as hard as you do, you are border line stiff but I would recommend x-stiff. Also depends on your swing. I have a swing speed on average of 117mph and I still use a stiff Grafalloy ProLaunch Red. The weight of the shaft plays a part here also because this will affect the lag in the shaft.

Have a Pro look at your swing which I did at Dicks

I agree with Jimmy above. Remember: Every shaft is different, one companies stiff might be anothers Reg and vise versa. Also, with shafts, the heavier the stiffer. For example a Stiff Proforce V2 79g is stiffer than a stiff Proforce V2 60g.

There is no industry standard for "stiff" and "x-stiff." So, in theory one company's stiff shaft offering could be the same as another company's x-stiff offering. That's why it's so important to get fitted and try a lot of different shafts and see what gives you the best ball flight.

The driver is a Titleist 907 D2 with a Diamana 65s shaft.

By the way - the driver is friggin' sweet

Cheers!

For my slow swing speed it's the difference between rolling my tee ball down the fairway and actually getting some air beneath it. Bowling vs. baseball.

I could see where it'd make a really big difference at your speed, though.

dude no offence, but this topic has been BEAT TO DEATH
use the search tab at the top and you can read, literally for hours

but i will leave you with this > lower torque = stiffer tip, lower ball flight and generally higher kickpoint, which can make the club "seem" stiffer
visa versa w higher torque
add some weight (EX - 65 compared to 77) and things feel stiffer yet

anyways, search it out man there is a TONNE if great info on here

    • I don't have enough details to know what to tell you, man. If they were walking across, to play devil's advocate, maybe just wait another 10 seconds next time.
    • Day 11: Putts with a metronome and worked on some feels for greenside shots.
    • I realize the frame cuts off my tail but wanted to specifically see my hand path and club shaft and head travel from A5 to A7 with the grip and posture work I have been doing . This might be the shallowest I have managed to get the club head to enter into impact. I like the finish much more as well.
    • Context:  I used to play golf very regularly (and when I'm playing regularly, I'm on TST regularly).  In summer 2022, I got my handicap down to a personal-best 11.9.  Unfortunately, in the three years since then, I've had far less time to play, and didn't really make the time to practice.  I've played a bit more the past few months, and I anticipate having a lot more time to practice starting in about two months, at which point I'm hoping to go back to my old practice habits (practicing daily, Evolvr lessons, spending more time on TST (come to think of it, I can do that important last part now)).   But it was thinking about how different my nines have been a few times in the past month or so that made me wonder if there was a thread here about it, and sure enough, there was.  In the past month or so, I've had a 38-46 and a 45-39.
    • Day 2 - range session. Focus on tempo. Not as good as last time, but good.
