I'm finding this year much more exciting than the last two.

I agree, but I'm still 95% interested in the outcome of this particular tournament and 5% in the whassaname Cup.

This one's turning out to be a real doozey. I'll say no more as I don't want to jinx the local boy ........

Hey Soup stop saying you are from Huntington; You are giving us Huntingtonians a bad name.If I remember correctly I had to call you out on false info from Bethpage so please refrain from the BS.

SOUP - Often wrong, never in doubt.

Fantastic ending. Once again, the TOUR Championship winner didn't win the cup, but at least he had a (mathematical) chance this year.

On the other hand, someone announced that Phil has more victories with Tiger in the field than anyone else, with 15 (Vijay has 14). He's actually solo second in that category, but I'm splitting hairs here.

Splendid outcome. Well played Phil, esp. with the putter and off the tee (he seemed to play within himself in that department today). Tiger ground it out well and fully deserves the Fedex Cup. I knew I'd remember the name.

Intersting stat Shindig. One thing about Phil: noone is gonna intimidate that fellow, not even HIM.

congrats phil, played awesomely! but i cant help but think it would have been different had he been playing with tiger, not because he would have faultered but because i think tiger would have fed off of him playing awesomely and would have bitten back, but we'll never know! at one stage i was getting excited about a fedex cup playoff between strick and tiger and in the end i was a tad dissapointed that it was all done with even when tiger had 3 holes or so left!

I have to say - he's a disaster. I doubt he wins anymore majors. He's quickly coming up on 40, he doesn't take good care of himself (he's a slob) and he's never been able to harness his swing or his game for long periods of time.

Is it OK if I put this in my signature line, along with a bit of commentary, or do you have copyright on this material?

* slaps self hard on the wrist * Soupie, you have given me a great deal of pleasure today and I thank you for that. I deserve it because I had planned to play a round but ended up doing some work from home after watching Phil's brilliant victory. This does not reflect well on me I suppose, I mean we all say things that we later regret and I should be more forgiving. But DAMMIT MAN, you have gone and posted something TO BE REMEMBERED DOWN THE AGES. Your sense of timing, it is ....well....unbelievably, spectacularly bad - Pythonesque even. Excuse me please ........... * doubles up *

Phil's win today was especially special and emotional for me. He's always been my favorite, and in turn, my grandmother is a huge fan of his (whenever the phone rings on a Sunday afternoon if I'm not by a TV, if it's her calling I know Phil's in contention or winning because she wants to let me know she's watching and thinking of me). She's such a fan that this summer she came to visit so I could take her to a tournament and watch him play, which she called the "highlight" of her life. She might be 75, but that day she was as excited as a teenager who saw her favorite rock star. He even signed an autograph for her after the round and she got to tell him that she prays for Amy every morning, and he thanked her for that.

Fast forward to this weekend. My aunt (my mom's sister) passed away of cancer, which she has battled for two years. It's been a very sad few days, which is to be expected when a young woman in her 40s passes away and leaves two college age kids behind. Needless to say, turning on the TV and seeing Phil atop the leaderboard really brought out the emotions. It was nice to escape reality and watch some golf. I'm not a really religious person, but it's hard to think that someone from above wasn't trying to put a smile on some faces that really needed them today. Since I know that sounds as crazy to read as it feels to write, I'll just send this message -- Phil, unknowingly you became an even bigger part of our family history today. Thanks for all the great memories, the type that bind generations and make golf a game for a lifetime.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
