I just had a golf pro telling me I was gripping my club wrong and to maybe fix that if I want to hit the driver straight. I hit all of my clubs really well (straight and long) EXCEPT my driver. Its so frustrating that I almost just feel like taking 3-iron off every tee since I can hit that consistently 200+yds straight.

I always used the interlocking pinky/index finger grip but the woman pro at my course told me to try out the "overlapping" grip for better driver-slice control. I guess I should've asked her if I should use that grip for just my driver since I'm fairly comfortable with my other clubs, except I didnt get to hit very many balls since my back/chest is absolutely killing me.

Anybody try this overlapping grip? I'm going to try to get some range time in with it this week and see how I do before hitting the course but I'm trying anything to hit more fairways.

10 finger so far for about 10 years. might change, I don't know. There is alot of pressure from overlappers to get us 10 fingerers to change but I continue to see evidence of great golf being played with the 10 finger so I'm convinced to go with whatever feels natural.

10 finger used to feel natural to me when i started.. but for one round i forced my self to change to interlocking (next best feeling grip to me) and ever since then when my hands touch a club they interlock just naturally, it just happens lol.. now even if i swing a baseball bat or any other type of swing besides golf my fingers just natuarlly interlock, its a habit now.

mine interlock as well and I know thats how tiger woods plays. The pro asking me to switch to overlapping seems like a conflict of interest and it feels a little weird but if it helps my driving I will be elated. Lots of range time this week!

when i try to use overlapping, the club feels really un stable in my hands like it could fly out of my hands if i swing to hard or something.

this is exactly the reason why I haven't changed. I feel absolutely no stability.

Yeah me too, I'm gonna run through a couple buckets at the range though and see how I do.

She also said I was swinging too much with my arms/hands (as in tensing them up) and that the looser right hand grip would get me swinging with my body more so I'll give it a shot at least.

I have used the overlapping grip since middle school. And that was 17 years ago. The interlock grip just feels wierd to me.

When I first started playing golf I interlocked, I didn't play in college and when I first got married. When I took it back up again I went to the overlap and have been using that for the last 20+ years.

Because of the arthritis in my hands, I use the 'reverse overlapping grip', in which the index finger of the left or top hand overlaps the smallest finger of the right or bottom hand. I do this for all clubs. I have tried the normal grip methods but the reverse grip fits my hand situation the best. With my left thumb firmly in the right palm valley, it feels very compact and secure. I can still adjust for strong/weak position as needed.

I would not change your grip just to hit a driver when all you hit all your other clubs great. Sounds like the driver is not right for you. It could be too stiff, not stiff enough, or the head might not be right for your swing.

Last year I bought a Burner driver and I loved the head, but could not hit it good without slowing my swing down. That is not the way I like to swing, so I changed the shaft and now it is the best club in my bag.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee
