Im have problems hitting it consistant and I need some drills. When i hit a good contact shot (3 out of 10 shots) i have a nice baby draw with a ton of spin but i want to get it to about 6 of 10 shots where it has the nice baby draw i like. i hit a 8 iron about 140. it would be great if the drills are with the sticks that every one is useing but if not that ok to.

Thanks, *NCgolfer1995*

your handicap is 3.4, shouldnt you be hitting it 8-9/10 times consitant and be telling us how to hit it more consistant?

If I averaged 28 putts, I'd be off 3 too. Goes to show there are many different ways to score.

Whenever I start losing the plot with my irons I go out and work on my chipping (This is obviously a strength of yours anyway so shouldn't take too long to get the feeling), and then my pitching and then my 3/4 and full wedge shots. I set up some sticks for alignment and go back to basics. Focus on Flat Left Wrist, hands ahead of the ball, getting a good impact position and then I make sure I end up in a balanced finish position.

It usually only takes me a session at the range to get it back on track. When I've got that sorted I start moving through the clubs.

I did it at lunch today and after 10 minutes of chipping and 10 minutes of pitching I hit 25 balls with my sand wedge. It was awesome, I was aiming for a light pole about 70 metres away and was all over it. I even hit it twice! Needless to say the confidence is back and I'm looking forward to Sunday's round. Good Luck.

When ever my swing needs a tune-up I go to an open grassy field and practice hitting my PW hitting over 100 balls focusing on solid contact, distance control and direction.

My main focus is my take away and backswing which means back to basics, stance arm position etc.

I will hit balls this way for a couple of days each day moving up my irons in this order: PW, 8, 7 & 6 irons.

This builds lots of confidence and results for me. My iron game will improve along with my fairway and even my driver contact.

Hope this helps, I am working on getting up and down like you do so even when my iron game is off I can score.

His definition of a good contact shot might be different from your good contact.

Let me know if you find any good drills outside of this post.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
