7 were erradic drives! Just wondering if you guys can offer some advice?

Ive flattened out my swing plane, I used to have a very steep attack, Ive since eliminated my slice and now have a pretty nice draw...

Only problem is sometimes that draw turns into a serious serious hook and I have a round like today where I lose 7 balls and take 7 friggin penalties!! I scored a 95 and without those horrible tee shots, I may have had a nice round...

Does coming in too flat promote a hook?? I did hit a few pull hooks, but some started right of my target line like usual, and just drew, and then hooked right into the trees!!

Any tips?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

your swinging to flat now causing you to come way from the inside.. on your back swing try bringing the club a little more vertical and flat and around you and it should help out.. lmk if it helps

when that happens to me I put away driver and only use 3 wood until I get my confidence back. Better to make a lesser mistake than a big one. not sure if you warmed up with the wedges, 9, 8, 7 , on down to 3 wood then driver before you started round.
sometimes go with 4 or 5 iron off tee just to get it in fairway. Hope it helps.

When I'm hitting hooks I find the culprit is quite often my right hand taking over too much.

If a trend develops...say 2,3 or more shots in a short span of holes then I'll take a practice swing before the real shot and focus on letting my right hand barely stay on the club... just along for the ride.

There could be a myriad of other reasons & solutions...but this works for me.

Good luck. I feel your pain!!! This sounds like one of my recent rounds...could've been great if I didn't leave it the rough as often. Hope my new driver helps.

This sounds like the problem I was having a couple of weeks ago.

To fix it I just simplified everything and just decided to put a good swing on the ball and let it fly, when i did this my miss would be one way and I would just play it to let my flight bring the ball into play.

So if you have hooking problems put a good swing on the ball and if you lose it left aim farther right, just make sure the ball does the same thing on every swing.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
