The hole (#18 at Westridge in LaHabra Hills CA if anyone knows it) is 491 yards on the card, I think the tees were slightly back. It plays appreciably downhill, and there was a pretty good right to left wind. I smoked my tee shot and by the time it was done rolling I was only about 150 out, still slightly above the green. 2nd shot was a 9 iron that drifted about 20 feet left of the flag and landed a little bit past pin high. The putt was a little bit downhill with maybe a foot of left to right in it, and considering my previous failures on eagle putts I convinced myself that A) I was not going to leave it short, and B) I was not going to miss it on the low side. I visualized the line I though it would take, put a good agressive stroke on it, and it dropped in on the high side of the hole.

What a relief. I've always hit the ball pretty far, and it had bothered me for some time that I had yet to pull this off. It also made the frustration of a terrible back 9 disappear completely. Hopefully it won't be another 15 years until I make my next one...

You, have a 6.5* driver, no wonder you hit your drive 300+! Could i just ask how you got it, I don't think even any pros use a 6.5*! I think Jiminez and Cabrera use 7*, but that's all i remember who play it.
Oh yeh, congrats on your eagle, still searching for mine!

The wonderful world of ebay... It was slightly used when I got it, the seller said it came from a tour van somewhere but I don't really know the details behind it. That head is sold there by itself pretty commonly in low lofts. Pros don't use them because they're much better at controlling their ballflight than I am, I can't hit it low with any club to save my life. I'm not really sure why but it's always been that way, and I honestly wish that weren't the case because I'd have a lot more choices when it came to what driver I play.

15 years - wow, i guess that was overdue.... Congrats.
Thankfully i mostly dont have to worry about putting for eagle since i miss the green in the first place - but then again i chip them in quite frequently :) .

It's still in my bag, but I don't think I'll go out of my way to keep it. I'd probably do that for an ace though.

Thanks to those who have responded, yes it was a great feeling and long overdue the way I see it.

Congrats on your first eagle! I almost got my first hole in one which resulted to my first birdie for a beginner player. The ball landed just a few inches shy for the hole in one too. I hated to thread jack but again congrats on the eagle.

Heres that pic. the ball closest to the pin was mine.

Nice shot! I've come about that close to an ace a couple times, but settling for a tap in birdie isn't too rough.

I wish I remembered my first birdie...

About 182 from the pin. The tee box is dead center of the pic. My cam wasnt the best but I got the best pic that I can get at that moment.

    • Day 37: did my drill swings in the garage with foam balls for about 15 minutes. Working on getting my backswing more turned and then going from there.
    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
    • Day 12 - 2025-12-31 Limited time today, and heavy rains here. 5-10 minutes of mirror work for full swing, working on trail side.
