Anyone have a decent indoor putting mat; I am looking to buy one to use to practice throughout the winter, but I am not too fond of the ones I have seen in stores so far. I'm looking for a decent size one and one that will have a true roll to it.

Thanks for the help.

I don't use putting mats or putt on carpet. It doesn't get true roll or break which, IMO, only hurts you. If I do putt on carpet I just putt it a pillow no more than two feet away and just work on my stroke.

I just finished a one day course with Dave Pelz. The instructor recommends practicing putting every night at home for at least 20 minutes.. He felt that you cannot do much about all the differences you will find on an actual putting green, but that practicing at home will tell you if your alignment and distance is good. When you move to the course you can deal with the terrain, spike marks etc. I bought a $39.00 practice green at Edwin Watts and it is fine. 3 foot by 9 foot. Wish it was a bit bigger though.

Did you get any instruction about grip pressure? I've been squeezing the top of the club with my little finger and think I need to relax that and grip with my middle finger. Now that i write about it both ideas seem wong and even grip pressure seems like the right answer.

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
