Wel Im going get the 2007 burner, any sugestions for a shaft???

Definitely get a shaft - that's really the only way to go! What do the people at the golf shop suggest?

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

I tried the Callaway Diablo, Nike, 09 Burner, and the Adams recently. The drivers listed in Golf Digest I could get my hands on. I went in to try just the O9 Burner but the salesman, who said he was local area pro as well, told me at the price the 07s were going for I should give it a look. I hit all the clubs in a rather make shift driving area with net and mat back (so not best environment). I was really surprised as the 07 burner actually felt as good if not better than the rest, even in the make shift hitting area, and was a good $40-50 cheaper...so i picked it up. Well much to my surprise my drives have gone from about 250 yards to 270-290-300. I have actually hit a couple over 300 so i have to throw that in...as it is not a constant I feel guilty about putting down as my average driving distance. My current clubs are 1996-7 TM burners and 1996 Titleist TDRs. Probably why i see such significant difference. My long drawn out point, the 07 Burner has been a great improvement for me and I love the feel of the club. A friend and I recently caught the golf bug bad and have really gotten into it. I got tired of him hounding me about my old clubs and how much of an improvement I would see with newer clubs so i told him i would give a new driver a try, and pending how that went, would consider new clubs. Well i am a new member and cannot post new threads, but i am looking for club advice for a mid to high 80s golfer looking to buy a new set of improvement clubs and fairway woods (got a Nike putter already), that is how much the 07 Burner impressed me. Oh, I am also feeling a little bond with TM now so how are the burners, and what is the difference in the Burner plus irons and burner 09. Thanks and sorry if post is to long.

If you never tried the 07 Burner Fairway wood you gotta try it, its so easy even people who got teached by "Golf for Dummies" could hit that thing - if i would break that thing i instantly would get the same club without even trying others.. It might not be the longest out there but pretty much the easiest to hit.

Thanks for feedback Kafka01...the 07 burner and the cleveland launcher or hibore are currently on my short list. I hit the Cleveland Launcher 5 wood in that little fake driving environment and it felt extremely good...then again i am playing with 12 year old clubs so what wouldn't. They did not have the 07 burner. The price different between the launcher and 09 burner was like $80 and it didnt feel like i could swing it any better than the Laucher...again though, I was hitting off a plastic mat into a black screen. Wish i could take both to the driving range but they dont allow...even tho they are used/demo clubs. Again, thanks for response and feedback...greatly appreciate.

I returned to the game after a 5+year layoff. I changed my woods first, then my irons. The first 3 wood I tried just didn't make the cut...poor results.

I noticed a ton of guys at my home course using the 07 burner woods. I recently bought one new for a huge discount. I had them change the grip at the time of purchase (stock grips are child-sized) and headed out to the course. I ddn't even hit the club in the pre-round warm up session. It stayed in the bag until I reached the first par 5. I hit a decent drive and then decided...what the heck....I'm not laying up gonna play that new wood. The results of the shot were that I was putting for eagle for the first time since getting back into the game (missed the putt, but you get the point). Anyway in the weeks that have followed I now have a new favorite club. These 07 Burners are sooooooo easy to hit. The ball gets up swiftly and hovers over the target area. I'm in love with it. I haven't been happy with the last two drivers I've gamed (short lives on both...Sumo 5900 and R9 460). I had such love for the 07 Burner 3 wood that I decided to try the 07 Burner drivers. I played a round with a 07 Burner 9.5* & 10.5*. Distance and trajectory for both was awesome, the 9.5* suited me better, though. I didn't care for the closed face. I traded the R9 460 in and ebayed a new, still in the shrink wrap 07 Burner TP 9.5 stiff. It's been sitting in my golf bag, staring at me, for the last week or more. I did get the grip changed out but haven't had any time to play or hit the range....it's killing me. I am highly confident in this stick, though. It's got the same shaft as the 3 wood. It sets up at address better than any driver I've owned. The funky graphics on the 07 models actually serve a great purpose...they really help for alignment and inspire confidence. I'm hoping I've got a new 'tater launcher. I'll find out next Wednesday and Thursday when I get some practice rounds in. Gonna break out my push cart and hump it some...burn some calories and enjoy the new clubs in the bag (new Rescue also).

If you look at my sig you see a commitment to and a realistic investment. The '07 #3 fairway metal is amazing. I have an affectation, the only time I use a tee is with a driver, all other tee shots are off the deck. The # fairway metal is so easy to hit that I am not even tempted to tee it up off the tee. I love it in the fairway, it is my most consistently impressive shot maker. I am also very happy with the strategy of using rescues instead of long irons, they make amazing shots, the '07 rescues are great and cheap.
As for Irons, I feel like my Burners are a good game improvement choice but you may want something with more room to grow; IMHO your handicap is good enough to consider better clubs.

I too have the 07 fairway wood, it's my favorite club. I've had a couple buddies use it and end up buying one too. Even the stock shaft that comes on it is decent (or at least it was 2 years ago, not sure what it comes with now).

Also recommend the hybrid, hit amazing shots with it all the time. From the rough, fairway and tee box.

Have any of you hit the Adams Speedline driver or 3 wood? I have both and they are fairly long (compared to what I don't know as I haven't tried anything else). The big thing (and it's really big for me) is they are both ugly as can be and the headcovers are worse. So much so I believe I will sell mine on Ebay and try something new if, and only if I find something that looks nice and is similar.

How do the Burner woods and driver stack up to the Speedline's? What about the R9?

BTW..... for those that do have the Speedline have you notice you gets no roll in the fairway? I cannot tell you how many times I carry a ball 20 yards further than who I am playing with only to see their ball next to mine after the roll. On a wetter day this summer there was literally a ball mark within 5ft of my ball where it stuck!

Is it the clubhead or the shaft that is responsible for the high ball spin rate (I don't know what my spin rate or swing speed is currently. Hard to get them to set up the machine for a lefty at Golf Discount)?

I hit pretty much all of them. Hand down the Burner was the best. After that, I liked the Speedline. Things went down hill dramatically from there. Didn't like any of the Titleist, Ping, Callaway or Cobra.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
