Well every now and then I get confused on something in my swing, so I figure I'll just go ahead and ask you guys.

First off, where does the head go in the iron swing? I've watched swing vision of all sorts of pro's, and their heads don't move in any lateral direction. Tiger's head goes down, but comes back up, and I was wondering how do the pro's do that? I try really hard to emulate the same, but I feel like I can't get ANY power into my swing. My hips don't seem like they want to move. I'll have to put up a video of my swing at some point. Mind if it's on a cell phone?

Second, would it be better to decrease lag and try to synchronize your hips and arms? Or is lag what makes the ball climb and get the distance?

Thirdly, in my driver swing, I don't get any climb at all. My drive goes to a peak, and goes that peak, and just goes straight. With all the people I practice with, their drives climb and climb for a long distance. I'm stuck with low flyers. What could be the culprit here?

Thanks guys!

I just thought of another one, and I was wondering, why does Tiger's head go down? My head doesn't in the swing, it stays mostly still...?

Nowhere, really. Ignore what Tiger does for now.

You shouldn't need to decrease lag in order to do things... but in my experience, lag is created automatically when you do other things properly.

Your ball speed and/or spin aren't high enough. Without knowing how far you hit your driver - and you don't have your equipment listed - we can't really say beyond that. Maybe your shaft's too stiff. Maybe you don't have enough loft. Or maybe you're just not swinging at even 90 MPH or more.

I think you've observed properly that the pro's heads do not go anywhere and certainly shouldn't move forward (slide toward the target) in the downswing. That is one thing that separates good swings from the lousy ones. I struggle with it. Ideally the head shouldn't move up and down eithere but Tigers sure does in some of the videos I've seen of him. Has he changed that in recent years?

the head should not stay still...if you watch most pros and draw a line on the side of the head closest to the target...it should sway away from the target and not pass that line until after contact is made...most people think their head stays still but even the pros tend to sway a bit

Work on synchronizing your arms and hips. The lag will take care of itself. As far as the driver not going very high.... don't worry about it. The longer the ball is in the air, the more it can go offline. I have a very penetrating ball flight with my driver. Besides, a low straight ball is a lot better than a high ball that you can't control.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

Just my 2 Cents:

I just try to keep myself centered over the ball and maintain a quiet head position. My hips rotate between the insides of my feet and I do not transfer too much weight to the rear foot in order to avoid a "sway" or head movement.

I think others here have said it best: Make sure your body is in synch with itself - Arms, Hips, Shoulders....

As far as Tiger goes, I personally wouldn't try to emulate any of the Pro's. They are way too good for me.

To answer your Tiger question: His head is going down because he is actually increasing his spine angle on the downswing.

Second, would it be better to decrease lag and try to synchronize your hips and arms? Or is lag what makes the ball climb and get the distance?

The ball climbs with speed, speed comes from (I wouldn't call it lag) torque, torque comes from a complete shoulder, quite feet and hips, and a good 'unwind'. Without forgetting the basics of course...

(the word 'Unwind' {definition} any golf down swing verb that describes: Slide Turn corkscrew hinge pivot hip move thrust magical moment trigger This disclaimer is for the extremely picky golf adviser, it in no way challenges ones belief about the proper 'start of the downswing'. Every one plays this game a bit different and if everyones swing looked the same; what fun would this game be?
