I was having trouble with about two triple bogies per 18 - just enough to keep me from breaking 90.

I took a golf lesson, and the pro I work with said I needed to make sure I had a smooth hand drop "into the slot" with left-hand lead. He said I tended to overswing on occasion, loop at the top with my right hand, ... and you know the rest. He had me do drills with a weighted sleeve on the club shaft, w/ OK results in lesson time.

So, I started doing drills at the range with a weighted swing sleeve (heavier than a warm-up do-nut.) I do some weighted sleeve drills, and then some half-swing and full-swing drills without the sleeve. Not too bad on the range.

But, next two times I play, I have two of my worst rounds of the year - a 99 and a 103. (The 103 included six up-and-down one putts, so it could have been worse). About twice a nine, my swing would fall apart - we're talking eights and nines - with some double bogies in there also. We're talking snap hooks, banana slices, you name it.

Anybody done the weighted sleeve drills before? Any advice on how to use it, what not to do?

(Yes, my HDCP should jump up on this week's revision.)

Are you using this sleeve thing to warm up with prior to playing?

It can be frustrating to get skewed results why going through swing changes / lessons. It is a grind. Which swing do I trust....mine or the new one my pro is making?

Transition can be a sucky period. Keep grinding!!!!!!

I have one of the weighted deals that fits over your iron heads. It sure will tell on me when I "loop" it like you are saying. When it's worked best for me is when I'm done warming up on the range and want to hit some real-time shots. I'll put the sleeve on a club and swing it a few times and then take one club longer (ex. sleeve on 7 iron and then hit my 6) and address the ball after a practice swing.

I have even used the weighted sleeve during a round....practice swings to groove the feel and stay loose. One of the guys I play with almost always has to pit stop at the turn and then grab a brat and a soda. While he's in there, I'll refill my water bottles and stay loose with the sleeve.

Good luck with the lessons and changes.....it will be worth the aggravation.
