I think it will and showed up at the British Open. Failing like that under stress has cost many to go out of sight but maybe not Phil, I dunno!

Personally I think that this will not affect Phil in a negative way. I actually see this having more of a positive affect on the way he approaches things, for all 72 holes. He was getting better at the conservative play then this happens, I think it will get his attention and make him thing on every single shot.

After all the close calls Phil has had in the past, he is definitely used to the pressure by now. He has faltered a lot of times late in major championships, and he has always bounced back and put himself back in contention.

The finish at Winged Foot won't affect Lefty at all. He will be back in contention at Medinah in a couple weeks.

I think you both might be right on this one. He has had a lot of disappointments over the years and I think he will bounce back too.

I think he'll take a dive and come back stronger.

I think it affected him, and I think the effects will continue to show themselves for years to come.

But I don't think the Western or the Open Championship are proof - he's never really played those events well. This year was no different. The next time Phil's in contention it may surface. And a few times after that... only he will know how to get through it: give in and play safe or slay the demons by putting a driver in the fairway?

Phil has made the statement that he would never take the easy route. It is hard to watch when a player messes up like that!
