Hey y'all,
Been a long time since I've been on here! I pretty much gave up on golf after this summer and almost passing out on the course and getting so frustrated all the time...
I'm trying to get back into golf again and I understand that it is winter and the wrong time to get back into golf, but I really need a good hobby for this summer and hopefully I can get good by the summer this time...
So I guess what I'm trying to ask is what do you do to practice over the winter when it is too cold and snow/ice outside? I don't really have anywhere indoors to practice or anything so what do you guys think?

Well I live in ireland so the only problem in winter is that is cold and wet.

Indoor putting mat?
And if you've got carpets get some airballs and get a shoebox/washing basket and practice chipping.
Get yourself down to the nearest driving range and if the weather is good enough go and play a few holes.

Winter is the best time to fix and faults in your swing so if your near a range with pro's teaching, get a few lessons.

I agree with James. Winter is the best time to improve and make all changes you need.
I don't know how cold it gets in MO, but if you can handle to go to a driving range and hit balls there... indoor putting is very nice since you don´t need to leave your own house.
I would also recommend some personal fitting, try to work on your flexibility, strenght...

putting stroke on the carpet focusing on solid contact, putting straigth and distance control. You can also focus on small details such as grip position, posture, shoulder positions and see what feel comfortable for you.

chipping is where the game begins and improving your up and downs from around the green. If you are an excellent chipper and can get up and down half the time you will lower your handicap and keep it low.

flexibility and conditioning The winter time is a great time to get in shape by simply walking for 30 minutes and work up to a fast walk for your cardio and strenghthening your leg muscles. make sure you warm up and cool down properly. Yoga or Pilaties are a great way to keep flexible and you will feel great afterwards as well.

Golf never leaves you even though you take a break, welcome back and may your return be more enjoyable and provide you will lower scores and maybe the tips above might help you achieve that.

I practice chipping in the house with a foam practice ball, I practicing putting on my living room floor and there is a heated driving range nearby that I go to.

I don't know man, we did this one at yoga the other day and I wouldn't say "great" described the way I felt after attempting it and face-planting about 6 times........

I'd stick to indoor short game and, even if it's too chilly to go hit balls, if you can identify your major swing faults and find some corrective training aids -just swing them around outside or inside for a while.

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
