Im a Junior in high school, and I have to to a graduation project before the give you your diploma, so im going ahead and figuring out what i want to do, because i have to have a product to present along with a paper. I dont really know much of anything about custom club building or club making but i figured wgile doing this stupid project i could throw a few clubs in the bag haha. I know that snake eyes is a main brand for club making, but i would like to know any other good ones, and if these clubs are really worth putting in your bag? like a wedge or fairway wood, or putter. the prices are pretty cheap so can these clubs really compete with titleist, TM, Ping, etc.? Any help is appreciated thanks!

snake eyes is a nice brand. i tried their irons (they were forgiving and long) but i liked the titleist ap2 better so i went with those. snake eyes is not very well known in the USA, it's quite a popular brand in the UK. If you're looking for cheap clubs which can easily be custom fit then you can't go wrong with snake eyes.
you could also consider MD Golf and Benross (British brands) although i'm not sure you can find these in the USA.

There are very good and offer everything you need. One of my golfing buddies plays them. He needed a custom set because he's very tall and went to Golfsmith and they put it together for him. He hasn't had a problem and they seem comparable to the "brand names" the rest of use.

My Tools of Ignorance:

Ball: Bridgestone B330-RX and Srixon Z-Star

Sounds like a lot more fun than the projects I did in high school many years ago! I have an off-the-wall idea for your project: how about build a set of clubs for a disabled person, or disadvantaged youth? You'll have the experience of building the clubs, make an impact on someone's life, and have a memory that will last you a lifetime. And it will look good to a college entrance examiner as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if you could get Golfsmith or other component supplier to donate the materials. The paper you write can cover dealing with a corporation for charitable giving, your experience working with a person to identify their special needs, and the experience of that person the first time they try out their new custom clubs built by someone who gave their time to make someone else's life a little better. This would be much better than a paper that just basically said you built a few golf clubs.

Give it some thought. To me, this sounds like a lot more fun than just looking at this as that "stupid project" (as you put it).

if there is a Golfsmith near you. Sign up for their Grocery store mvp card type deal and you get 1 free instructional attendence

Use it for their club making demo day. Not only do you get shown and learn everything you need to know for excellent clubmaking but you also get to make and keep a free snake eyes sandwedge !!!! huge bonus and value!

thats a tremendous idea Clambake...my high school years are behind me...but that is something I would even consider doing just for fun. Golf has given everyone here on these boards a bunch of enjoyment...why not spread it around. see if there are any First Tee chapter in the area...

A brand I would look at is KZG Golf. They make some high quality clubs and I have seen the heads only wedges for reasonable prices.

I did a yardage guide for my home course when I was a senior in high school but putting a club together is pretty easy. I've put a couple together and I still use the snake eyes hybrid I built. I mean really besides making the correct cuts to the shaft it's just using the epoxy to put the stuff together and put a grip on it.

I'm pretty sure KZG doesn't sell heads unless it's to one of their dealers. Those people usually just build it for you, so getting just a KZG head is usually tough. But, they're great products. I've used Snake Eyes wedges for the majority of this year and they're solid. It doesn't compare to a Vokey, but for the price, it is a good wedge.

To the OP, sounds like a good idea. Snake Eyes is a good brand like I've said. Check out Maltby, too. They make good stuff, too.

Thanks I really like the idea about the clubs for handicapped people clambake that's really cool. Anymore ideas about that or just anything else I could use for making clubs would be great. The the main goal for the project is to get into something you really don't know anything about, but still something that intrests you. And thanks for the comments Rob, if your just here to bash me for some reason then get a life.... Thanks everyone hope to hear more!

hirekogolf.com is a great place to get your components. the acer xk line has built up quite the reputation, and was even featured in the 2009 hot list from golf digest.
