I use the offical Barak Obama commemorative plate! It' s a little big but I can see it from anywhere and it is a great conversation starter.... especially at muni's in the "culturally diverse" state of Kentucky.

Seriously though, I use a 1979 quarter, my birthyear. I have several in my dresser at home so if I loose one, I've got penty of spares.

Awesome...I just ordered a coin to put in play at the upperscale courses in the Desert where Democrats are scarce and Africans Americans are even scarcer. I just hope I don't cause someone to have a stroke! I also purchased the mousepad for our work "white elephant" Christmas gift exchange. Lots of Barack haters at the workplace so this should be interesting.

I use a guitar pick. Works great!

Great idea. I have a few from when I played years ago..and you never know when you might find a Les Paul lying in a sand trap somewhere.

Interesting, I would have never thought that a state that would elect idiots like Boxer and Pelosi would ever have a shortage of Liberals.

Gibson, Fender or other? Thin or maybe Heavy?

I wonder where the saying 'pick that ball up' origins from...? I used to use hand made picks when I was still planning to be a pro musician. Those were thick, hard and Gibson pick shape. Those would have made a great ball mark. Still have the Gibson guitar, though, ES-175D from 1961. Lovely piece of work.

The one I use is a Fender Tortoiseshell 351 Standard Pick. It is a medium, but for ball marking I think a thin would be best, except on a windy day! LOL It actually works extremely well.

That Gibson guitar sounds like a sweety. I have a Gibson Songwriter acoustic. Love it, just wish I could play better. Funny, I say the same thing about golf!

curious what others use as a balll marker that would be considered not the norm.

I currently use something that came with a container of replacement spikes. But I think somewhere down the road (hopefully way down the road), I will modify your approach, and use my dogs name tag as a marker. HE'S A GOOD BOY!!!!

I use a silver dollar. Found it on the course when I was a kid. I've used it every round since.

I use a bouncing betty during skins games. It puts a little pressure on the competitions putting.

I have a really cool collection of coins which were my dad's from the army. I typically use a 1945 Silver Half Dollar. It's special to me because it was my dad's (who has passed) and it was from the same year that WWII ended (which he served in). It's also helpful because the Walking Liberty striking on the Tails side is basically a straight line, so I use I to line up my putts with, then line the ball line up parallel with it.

Your desire to change has to be greater than your desire to stay the same.

I'm using a "lucky" nickel I found. I'm extremely superstitious... I usully rub the nickel 3 times before marking my ball.

I might use a poker chip I got for my 21st birthday since my "lucky" nickel hasn't been so lucky recently :p

I use a quarter. I only use a quarter with a "good" date - like '74 or lower. I once shot 68 with a '68 quarter.

    • Day 22 - 2026-01-11 More mirror work. Back outdoors tomorrow.
    • Day 11, 1/11/26.  Today was putting, along about 6' of carpet, with coins on the ground to keep me cognizant of what I'm doing.  I think this is the at-home drill from LSW. (Ugh, missed two of the last four days -- 1/10 and 1/8)
    • Day 9: 2026.01.11 Hit some balls at the range, concentrating on weight distribution at address, got some on film.
    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
