hey guys, i recently blew out the Aldila VS Proto 'By You' in my nike sumo. it was stiff flex and now its a ladies flex basically. my SS is average 116 and i do need x-stiff. however, i also need a shaft with a low kick/high launch since i don't hit the ball all that high. my average drive is about 290carry and roll to about 315-320, and i'm very accurate off the tee. my question to you is, what shafts should i look at with the specs of x-stiff, and a high launch/low kick point. also probably around 70g's give or a take a few.

thanks,

tim

Average of 290 carry rolling to 320? Impressive stuff. That would put you at the top of the PGA stats for driving distance, because the current leader in that category, Robert Garrigus, only averages 312.3 yards...

I hit a long ball and recently got the best shaft I have ever hit, the Matrix Ozik Icon 6. Hitting the drives straighter than ever.

I think you need to go get fitted on a launch monitor, not in a hitting simulator.

However, I would recommend looking at the UST stuff. I play with some long hitters as well and 2 of the 3 were fitted for a UST shaft.

I'm agreeing with the Matrix XCON sayers. And kingfisher, Tour pros don't hit driver all the time. If they hit driver all the time, their averages would probably go up 10 yards. But they're smart and don't.

How exactly do you "blow out" a shaft?? How do you know its been blown out?? Just curious...

basically i swung too hard too many times and blew out the torque in the shaft. when a graphite shaft is swung past its normal level of torque it will soften. mine is to the point where i am swinging a ladies flex club. also, i am pretty sure i chipped something inside the shaft today as i can hear chunks moving around when i move my club, and its not a head rattle.

    • Day 2: August 12.  I did 25 balls of the ruler drill from LSW for putting.  24 of the 25 stayed on the ruler through 36" but some were smoother than others.  I suspect if the ruler (and goal) had been 48" far fewer would have stayed on.  I'm trying to go by sound, and not look, since when I attempt short putts, I don't want to look (although now I wonder if that's conventional wisdom that turns out to be wrong).
    • Day 17: did mirror work while watching TV. Working on wrist feels.
    • Day 315 - 2025-08-12 Got a little work in before Juniors showed up for one of their Summer Sessions.
    • I always knew it as high but never that distance was 90-95% of rating! That has always played to my advantage. I never have but I could totally vanity cap myself by playing **super** long courses that are otherwise super easy. There was one course like that in LA that I used to play that helped my cap like that. The back tees were close to 7k yards, but otherwise the course was incredibly easy. Wide open, misses almost always had a play at the green from the adjacent hole, flat greens, not challenging green complexes, etc. But it got a high rating because it was so long. So I could swing hard, spray and pray, and score well (relative to my handicap).
    • Do need a special ferrul. Thanx 😉
