I consistently draw PW-->7i, along with 6H and 4H (I tend to draw my 6H the most and often address the ball with the 6H open to compensate)

I consistently fade driver, 5H, 3H, and 2H.

According to computer swing analysis, my impact swing path is (on average 4-5 degrees in to out with a 2 degree closed club face) My misses tend to be toe side.

Go get professionally fitted asap. Be sure to have your lie/loft/length for every club wrote down for you. I would be willing to bet your clubs are at the heart of the problem. I had a 6 iron once that I couldn't hit to save my life. Turns out it was nearly 3 degrees flat from my other clubs (2 degrees upright). That fixed that.

Check your transition. Make sure you're not turning your shoulders open when you start down. A lot of people get quick from the top with longer clubs because they think they have to swing harder to hit them. To check this, try to take a slower, smoother swing and feel like you're holding the left shoulder closed on the downswing. You should see a straight or draw filight from that driver and 2H pretty quickly. If you're shoulders turn open at the start of your downswing, you will come over the top every time and there is no way to correct it at impact.

Thanks all. Off to the range. My clubs were fitted three years ago (suppose they could have changed their lie angles from repeated trauma) Will be working on a slower transition to the forward swing, keeping the left shoulder closed. I have the feeling my shoulders are a bit open at address also.

Ball position, and set-up. Make sure they are consistant, if that or the previous tips dont help...post a video. I would like to see this.

Good Luck,

Yep, I was getting quick in the transition. Went back to the monitor, I was going out to in 2-3 degrees and compensating by closing the clubface 3 degrees closed.

Swing path back on a better plane (4 degrees in to out with 1-2 degrees open club face) now by pausing a bit at the top, then dropping down into the slot delaying the club release. Working on releasing/extending/timing.

Glad to hear you're doing better. After I figured out the transition was broken for me, I had to go back and work on address and ball positioning to get consistant again. My body had gotten so used to an off plane swing, it physically hurt my torso to get back into a proper mechanic.

Good luck the rest of the way!

Not uncommon. I suspect setup (e.g. ball position), shaft stiffness, and lie angle may also play have a role in this.

One set of woods I have is all draw with the 3w and 5w and all fades with the driver. I suspect the shaft (Brunswick 6.5 FM) is a bit too much for me in the driver. It takes a bit of nerve to play a par 5 aiming left of the target with the driver, then right of the target on the approach. I draw with some iron sets and fade others, but my goal is to hit irons straight(ish). I tend to switch clubs every few rounds though (rotate what I already own) so one practice range goal is to match my tempo to set in play.

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
