Now that it appears my season has ended here in Upstate NY, I would like to start my winter long Ebay search to upgrade my 3 wood.
But I would welcome some advice...
Currently I am using a TE Houdini Utility #3 Wood (16*/42.5 in) 210 carry
Will I see a difference if I add a standard TE 15*/43 in 3 Wood?
I am also considering dropping down to the 13* but they are harder to find.
Since the Exotics are 'hotter' I suspect I will pickup yardage.
*
Now comes the hard part...
I am shopping for orginal CB, CB2, or XCG models...
Mostly for price... CB3 too$$$, XCG-v and XLD just not my taste.
*
Can anyone give me their impressions of CB, CB2, And XCG models.
I want to be able to hit the club off fairway and short rough.
Aldila DVS might be my shaft choice vs. Fujikura X-Quad ?
I have Fujikura HL in my driver. It always seems to lack 'pop' to me.
Bottomline: CB1 / CB2 / XCG
Which is longest? Which is easiest to hit??
Thanks.
BTW Also considered Ping G10 but no one claimed they were looong!

I have both the g10 and exotics 3wood, i just bought the exotics 2 weeks ago. This is my personal experience, i do not hit the exotics 1 yrd further. I've gone to the driving range and hit both clubs, and really giving the exotics a chance to see what i can do. But it just didn't get the distance i was hoping to get. I'll be playing all weekend, so i'll be using the exotics still. I haven't gave up on it yet, i just haven't felt i got some smoking hot 3 wood. I play with a friend who has the same club and he hits it well. When i bought it, it was the last one they had and i got 100 bucks off. So i guess it wasn't to bad of a deal, i can always sell it on ebay if it doesn't make the team.

So maybe the XCG isn't longer than the CB1 and/or CB2 ?
How about off the deck... any opinions there.
I really am not looking to replace my driver but I definitely want to use it to gain 15-20 yards on par 5's. CB2 has shallower head right??
BTW I could not believe how 'weird' the XLD looked...
Also I read some players thought the XCG-V did not set square at address.
Do you like the X-Quad shaft ???
I was not impressed with the Fujikura HL.
I had an older Hogan C3 Draw with Aldila NV that had lots of 'kick'...
I get that same 'kick' about 1 out of 4 swings with the HL shaft....
So far I am just not ready to 'adjust' a perfectly usable swing to accomodate the shaft. My guess is I swing too fast.... over swing without getting club head speed to match my effort. I did weaken my grip which helped some.

I endorse the CB2; the clubface is Hot in my opinion (for me 10+ longer than my previous 3 Wood, with nice medium-boring type trajectory). I would not classify it as "easy" to hit, but a well struck shot is Long in IMO. I had never owned any Tour Edge products prior to this and was put into 3 Wood by custom fitter in Scottsdale.... Based on my experience with this Exotics product, I am going to look at the new Exotics Drivers.

amazingly read this just after i bought an exotics cb2 15deg with a Taylormade TP Motore F1 Reg flex shaft (mid Reg between stiff and regular). And i got it for only 114 BUCKS! I hit it longer now but a little bit tougher to control from my big bertha warbird 3 wood with an RCH 90 firm flex. (not hard to outhit) but this club changed my mind completely on short tough fairways. At a par 5 over a slight hill into a downhill right bend. Driver is outtve the question. Got used to hitting this thing slicing high and to the right. So i actually tried to cut this one around the bending fairway and trees. Came off hot and low, almost like a tour trajectory. same as my taylormade r9 460. LOVE this club and even when im not hitting a round or a range session im swinging it in my back yard. NEver taking it out

I my extensive search for a 3 wood over the last week or so, I noticed that TGW has the XCG-4 on sale for $199.

Any thoughts on the newer Tour Edge stuff. I keep looking at the Exotics because of the ti club face but I keep reading mixed reviews. Are these things really that long or not?

ohhh they are LONGGG. you dont get that thought at contact cause its just solid thump more like a misshit but when you get used to it you can tell it really kills the ball. The one thing i think is a negative is the control you lose, which i understand. Longer distance less control. Gotta really get used to these clubs in order to control them and shoot them exactly how you want. Which for me, straight is perfectly fine considering the distance

CB2 owner...kinda wish i had a xcg-4, cb4, annnddd the trilogy. but id be broke haha

I ordered a 13* XCG-4, should ship today. Once my knee heals and I can hit balls, it's off to the range. Going to see the Dr. today, hopefully he give me the okay to start working my knee harder.

Got my new 3 wood a couple of days ago and today was 2 weeks since my knee surgery and it was feeling pretty good so I headed to the range. The first half of the bucket I was frankly, scared. Afraid to put much into a swing not knowin how the knee would act, but, building up a little at a time I started hitting full shots. I finally hit the new Exotics 3 wood and all I can say is.... WOW.

I'm planning on playing Sunday so we'll see how it plays on the course.

im glad you enjoy that purchase.  even if you werent able to put a full swing on it, i have a feeling you would still get really solid distance out of that club. They definitely are tested and true to their +20 yard guarantee.
