Ive only demoed the 909D2 for a few rounds but it is very similar to the 905R in terms of just normal playabillity. Only a truly elite player will notice much difference in terms of ballflight. They do sound and feel different though.

I ended up going with a 909D3 just because the head shape reminded me most of the 905R i was using before. Id go with the cheaper option if money is a concern, but if you just want something new, im sure the 909D2 will be fine.

  • 2 weeks later...
the 905r is a great driver but i found that the d2 went farther and had more forgiveness.
i actually switched from the 909d3 to my new 909d2 recently.
the launch monitor said that the d2 had a higher launch and less spin (even though the d3 is supposed to have less).

Had a 905, bought the 907d2, hit my buddies 909comp....

905-Nice driver I needed a different shaft
907-Proforce v2, I hit this thing a mile
909-Sounded weird when you hit it kinda like the old callway erc

You're call, the head never matters much to me, for me its about the shaft. So make sure that is a good fit for you and the rest will be history

I had a 905R and loved the clubhead...everything about it. I hated the stock shaft.

Zach Johnson played the 905R forever until he finally switched to a newer model, I know he passed over the D2 when it came out and kept the 905, now I think he plays a 909.

i think drivers have reached a point where they cant get much better, that graph shows that the newest titleist clubs go 1-2 yards further than their clubs from 3yrs ago. 1-2 yards isn't worth paying $300 for. its now who's got the best marketing department to make you think their newest driver is alot better than the one you've got

i've got an ft-5 10* with a v2 stiff, i tried out the g15 10.5* with a avixcore shaft, the distance was exactly the same, literally balls next to each other. ball flight was very similar, wasnt on a launch monitor so dont know about spin.

i'm glad i hit them side by side on the practice fairway, stopped any thought of wanting to get a new driver

I suppose now it really comes down to what advances have been made in shafts.....and which fits you the best.

So I think I was right that he skipped the original D2 that came out with that triangle shaped flop that is the D1.

FT -5 by Callaway is an awesome stick, i think it is their best players club, great looking at set up and the tech is definetly in that club.

    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
