I love old school and links golf course design. I would love to see what everybody else thinks by indicating there favorite classic designer (cannot be alive), favorite modern designer (must be alive), favorite designer nobody has heard of and least favorite/most overrated designer.

Classic - Alister MacKenzie (Seth Raynor a close second)
Modern - Coore/Crenshaw
Never Heard of - Peter Matkovich
Least/Overrated - Pete Dye (Trent Jones a close second)

Love Ron Garl... This is a fabulous course. Grew up in the neighborhood as a kid and I play there a lot. Although it's definitely in Durham ;)

All-time favorite Donal Ross. He has built some of the best and most fair golf courses out there, and i think some of his best are actually munis. There is a Donal Ross course in Boston that is my favorite course ever that i can play for $8, and its in great shape, and just a plain awesome course.

Current- dont really know many, but i kinda lile Pete Dye, or at least i've always wanted to play TPC Sawgrass, probably cause i play it all the time on Tiger Woods PGA video games.
Also i've played TPC Boston which was designed by Arnold Palmer, and it was one of the best looking (dare i say, prettiest?) golf course i've ever played. Also there are tons of tees so anyone can play.

Arnold Palmer designed the original layout at TPC Boston, but the course as it exists today is largely the work of

Gil Hanse.

I've played Shennecossett GC in Groton CT

I love old school and links golf course design. I would love to see what everybody else thinks by indicating there favorite classic designer (cannot be alive), favorite modern designer (must be alive), favorite designer nobody has heard of and least favorite/most overrated designer.

Classic: I've lived most of my golfing life in Arizona so unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to play any courses from the Golden Age of golf course design. I'm hoping to be able to realize my dreams of more golf travel with the goal of experiencing as many of these classic courses as I can.

Modern: Based on the play of four of their designs, Coore & Crenshaw seem to be the guys that are offering modern course design that have a flavor for the old school. Thoughtful, fun and naturalistic. Nobody has heard of: Gil Hanse. This spring I played Rustic Canyon and fell in love with this golf course. Overrated: Jack Nicklaus. The courses of his I have played are just overly demanding and not fun.

    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
