Ok, so I am thinking about getting rid of my DCI 762's after 8 years. I am a solid ball striker, low ball flight.... Not much of a shot shaper, can hit the draw or fade but prefer to just change the height as needed. Looking for a good set of irons to replace the 762's and these are my narrowed choices.

Ping S59- Cast, minimal offset, ping fitting says im a blue dot... paid to have it done and they said im a standard/standard
735cm- Forged, minimal offset, cavity to muscle
mp 30- cut muscle, great reputation

Have dg300's in the 762's. Curious about the project x's.

Feedback would be appreciated.

I can't account for the S59's or the mp30s, but I can say that I was very impressed with the 735cms. They are a bit heavier than the 755s and 775s, but the feel when striking the ball is almost identical. I figured I'd give them a shot (for $150 shipped, why not?) although I was really looking for a set of Mizunos or more recent Titleist clubs. Ended up being so happy with them that I kept them. I love having the split set.

I guess my real concern would be to go with the 1 degree upright or not. Been playing standard clubs so long and being fit once having the result be standard. Ping fitting says 1up / standard length. Should I try the upright in the Titleists?

the 1 up would be a good thing if you are tall. Otherwise, if you want all blades, go with the mp30, if you want a blended set, go with the Titleist. I believe Mizuno also does blended sets but you have to custom order them and they get pricey.

I'm not a ping fan, but some people like them. If you buy them you will likely loose some feel.

Agreed. My friends father (also a single-digit handicapper) bought a set of either S59s or S57s this year and wasn't very impressed with them. Also, they have a dampener in the cavity if memory serves me correctly.

the s59's are on the bottom of the list of the three. Mizuno or Titleist? Such a tough decision......

I know I'm a little late here but I can speak from experience with the 735CM's... Bought a used set about a year ago at a golf shop... I have played a few rounds with them and they feel really solid... IMO Pings are great clubs, I can't argue with the science and engineering that goes into the design of those clubs, they just feel a little bit hard to me at impact... Mizuno makes great clubs, the opposite of Pings, soft feel from the forging process... If you needed to get Titleists or Mizunos adjusted you could have them bent by a clubfitter if it's only a degree or two... Good luck with whatever you go with and hit 'em straight!

    • Day 22 - 2026-01-11 More mirror work. Back outdoors tomorrow.
    • Day 11, 1/11/26.  Today was putting, along about 6' of carpet, with coins on the ground to keep me cognizant of what I'm doing.  I think this is the at-home drill from LSW. (Ugh, missed two of the last four days -- 1/10 and 1/8)
    • Day 9: 2026.01.11 Hit some balls at the range, concentrating on weight distribution at address, got some on film.
    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
