Callaway x18, x20 or Big Bertha Ibrids?

Those are the three sets I am looking at. I love my Callaway Driver, wedge and putter so I figured I'd finish them off with the irons.

I usually shoot in the 90's. No bad slice or hook although I'd like/need more distance off the tees.

I'm definitely going to hit them before I buy but I'd like to get some opinions on here?

Which set would you recommend? Are the 20's $200 better than the 18's? Which set is easiest to hit?

Recently got fitted for irons. Tried the x-20s, Mizuno M-57s, Nike Vr's, Cobras, and Adams a7's. The X-20s were good but they werent close to the top, IMO. The Mizunos and Adams were best. If you must get Callaway, they arent bad clubs. But if your a little more open minded, get fitted.

I have an obvious bias for the X20's, as I play them, but seriously, they are great clubs. Are you looking at the X18R, or the original X18's? The X18R's are club Callaway brought out to compete at the $399 price point. They don't have the Bore-Thru hosel, the 360 degree undercut, or the same shaft and grip as the original X18. They are still good clubs, but the X20's are worth the extra money. Look on the Callaway Preowned site for some great deals, their condition ratings are accurate, and the prices are hard to beat. Watch out on Ebay, as there are more fake Callaways than you can imagine on there.

Leo3 on target with X18 vs. X18R. Besides lower price point, X18R designed as a boxed set. What you see is what you get, no custom features or shaft options. If the X18R fits you as is, might be OK. Could buy X20 set used; not sure if many "factory" sets left. X20 has rather large head, can be sticky out of the rough. If the demo was indoors on a monitor, you don't pick this up. If you have time to work on your game, try out the X22 Tour. Has smaller head, and gives great feedback on hits. You know on impact if it's an excellent, OK or poor shot. But, it has a smaller sweet spot. If golf schedule is irregular, or you want more of an edge, go with X20 or X22.

I upgraded from my Big Bertha Golds (1993 ish) to X20 Tours last week and I am absolutely thrilled. So much more accuracy. I love the feel. Almost like I am aiming at the flagstick now, where in the past, I was just aiming at the green. GI irons have their place, but I think at some point, they can be a crutch. Like you, I am trying to break that 90 barrier and I feel these irons will help do that. At any rate, be sure to look at the "like new" irons on Callaway Preowned before buying. I have bought "like new" 7 times and in each case, I have got brand new clubs!! Compare prices and such there. Awesome site. I have redone my whole bag this month with the awesome deals at CPO.

Thanks. How would you compare the Bertha Ibrids?

I don't like the look of the Ibrids, but thats a personal thing, you can get Big Berthas with standard style long irons as well. The Berthas are super forgiving, and lots of people love them, but the X series might be a better choice for a 19 hcp. as yourself. I would try them both, if you can, and unless you really need a lot of help getting shots in the air, I think you will prefer the X series clubs. All are good irons, just a matter of what suits your eye and swing.

Thanks for all the help guys. I' ll definitely try some other brands out but I love the 3 Callaway's I have now. Any other irons you guys recommend in the $500 price range?
