I have a Taylormade Rescue Mid 19* hybrid (3 iron) that is a really consistent club for me. Generally, I like to make a smooth swing and hit it about 180.

My swing seems more suited to hybrids than fairway woods, so I'm thinking of ditching my 3-wood and trying a 2 iron or 1 iron hybrid. I'd love to have a club I can consistently hit 200 yds for long par 3s and tee shots into tight fairways.

Considering I'm hitting the 3-iron 180, how much distance can I expect to gain from a 2 iron or 1 iron hybrid? And are there any particular models you like that I could find at a reasonable price (ideally under 100$ on e-bay)? Thanks.

I found a deal, but you better hurry...

I ordered the Callaway FT 3h and 4h last night for about $75 each off Callaway Preowned. These are $199 clubs!!! If you buy "like new", in my experience they are brand new at Callaway Preowned. Done this 7 times now and new clubs every time. Check out the site. The 30% off deal on fairway woods and hybrids ends tonight (Tue) at midnight. Also, they have free 2nd day shipping Dec 15-17!! I just got the FT 3W and 5W, "like new" (brand new) for $107 each ($250 clubs). Can't beat Callaway Preowned.

Do you have trouble with your 3W, or do you just think the long hybrid

might be better? In other threads, posters have said the longer Hs are tough to use except on the tee or fairway. Will you have a distance drop-off with the long H over the 3W? You said you liked your TM hybrid, but didn't really say how you hit your 3W.

Regards to the 3-i to hybrid issue. I made the change back in the summer. 4-i and 3-i to a 24deg. hybrid and 21deg. hybrid.
They kept telling me "Oh they are easier to hit, or hit em' like a regular iron shot"
To make a long story short, I fought with them for 3-4 months, with a terrible tendency to top the ball. I was on the verge of wrapping them around a tree, and then magically for no reason they started working. Smooth as butter out of rough, clean sweeper off the fairway. Still not sure why all this happened but they do work.
My distances:
3-i : 200 - 210 vs. 21deg. hy. : 215 -220
4-i : 185 - 195 vs 24deg. hy. : 200- 205

I think the extra distance can be contributed to confidence in the clubs. That means a lot.

I hole this can help you in your decision.

Your 19* tm is a 2h. Taylormade has them listed as a 3h but every 19* hybrid I have tried or owned was a 2h.

I would dump the 13 or 15 degree 3w and go with a 17 degree 4 wood instead. The extra length on the shaft will be beneficial on par 5's and those 210-220 yard par 3's.
Just my observation given that you hit the 19 degree 180. The 17 degree hybrid will most likely give you 10 extra yards so you will still be missing that 200 club.

Cleveland makes a 17* 3w, the head size is bigger and more forgiving.

Do you have trouble with your 3W, or do you just think the long hybrid

The 3-wood has been inconsistent lately, to the point where I'm hitting the hybrid instead. Yes, the 3-wood can get me 200+ yds, but it can find trouble, and my hybrid rarely finds trouble. That said, I stuck my 3-wood 1 ft from the hole on a 218 yd par 3 today! Basically one of the best shots I've ever hit. Maybe she's trying to patch things up with me!

I think that extra length shaft on fairway woods is what makes me less confident. I just feel like hybrids are easier to hit, especially since I have a steep swing. But I will check out some 4 or 5 woods to see if I can find one that works for me.

Thanks for the responses.

5w is going to be the same or more loft than your hybrid.
