So I plan on getting back into serious golf and need a new driver. My old driver was the callaway erc2 (yea its non conforming but tell a 14yr old kid to pick a driver and that's what I ended up with). I'd like to find something that doesn't look like the spaceship in close encounters of the third kind. With that being said are there any specific models i should look at? Ultimately I''m looking for a few suggestions.
Thanks for any help/input

A friend of mine gave me a ERC II head he found in the trash at a local driving range. I used it as my first attempt at reshafting a bore-through head. I put a Grafalloy Prolite 35 in it. I'd say it is definitely hits the ball long, when you hit it pure. Otherwise I hooked the thing worse then any hybrid, very odd. Other hits felt dead, particularly off the heel.

Any modern 460cc driver is going to be more forgiving in my opinion, I play a Cleveland Hibore XL that is already a few years old and it's much more solid on offcenter hits. I also play an '09 Tour Burner, again it's an easier club to hit and I'd say as long as the ERC. The sounds on both is much better too, even the Cleveland which is quite loud is not even close to the ERC, that's hands down the loudest driver I've ever hit.

Thats my problem with the erc2, i can hit it 260-280+ when i'm on and striking the drives flush otherwise its a dead shot that wont work. The sound is amazingly loud so i guess going from there that wont be a big issue on any of the newer drivers. I saw the highbore on rockbottom for 99$ seems like a good deal. My sister recommended the taylor made burner driver as well so i'll give that a look. I don't mind less distance, id just like some more control compared to the erc2 (which seems could be everything!) ty for the input chilly.

Strictly from the money standpoint, this is a good time to look. Golf shops are trying to move out a backlog of assorted drivers (varies store to store).

Now under $200: * Callaway: Hyper X | Diablo * Cleveland: HiBore Monster * TaylorMade: Burner 2009 * Nike: Various Sumo Now under $150: Earlier Burners, some Sumo Now under $120: Cle HiBore XLS

Take a look at the new Cobra ZL driver. It's weight distribution is amazing- you can swing it as fast as you want without it feeling like you're making a weird swing. The club is not too heavy or too light- it's just perfect. The head is not huge like some of those big big drivers, and it's really confident at address. I suggest you really take a look at the Cobra ZL driver. It has a really pleasant sound to it also...It's nothing like the loud PONG from other Cobra drivers.

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
