a friend of mine asked me the other day what the lowest score was in golf history and who had done it. i told him the lowest i personally knew of was 59, and that several different people had accomplished that one, but that it was very likely someone somewhere had done better. any input on this from you guys?

Homero Blancos shot an amazing 55 in a college event years ago... this is not recognized as an official record because the course was shorter than the required length set by some golf body that I don't remember.

I've heard guys who are members at Isleworth say that Tiger shoots (shot?) in the 50's quite often at Isleworth, but who really knows what you believe. Although, i may still believe him on golf stuff.

I think on the PGA tour there have been 3 "official" 59's--Al Geiberger back in the 70's at Colonial in Memphis, Chip Beck in 93, and David Duvall at the 99 Hope. Also, Annika shot a 59 at an official LPGA tournament. ( I am no history genius; this was on TV on Golf Channel a couple nigths ago.)

These I believe are the lowest as far as official PGA/LPGA events.

Lowest I'd heard of, in competition play, was a 60 by Darren Clarke 4/5 year ago.

Playing: Wilson Deep Red Driver and Woods; Tour Edge Hybrid irons; Old 1970s Ping Putter (with rust to prove it).
Goal for the year: Golfing holidays in Spain.

60 isn't even close. David Duval shot a 59 in the final round to win the Bob Hope.. ughh... sometime at the beginning of the decade. And the above mentioned scores, look at post #6, here it is below

    • Hey, thanks for the feedback. I do lift weights but I’m also adding yoga or Pilates for mobility and flexibility to my routine.
    • Day 18: 2026.01.20 Continuing work on arm raise during backswing. Starting to feel less weird, especially the slower I go. Looking like a busy week so might be the weekend before I can hit some balls.
    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
    • I would say both are equally not the best for golf. Is it better than nothing, sure.  Golf is an athletic motion. Professional golfers are doing a comprehensive workout routine focusing on strength, power, flexibility, stability. They might include some yoga into the routine. I would put both of them in the recovery bin, not golf enhancement bin.  If you want to increase swing speed, core strength, longevity in golf and life, then lift heavy weights.
