I am bound and determined this year to drastically improve my short game. I realize that 70% of shots are from 100 in. The only place I can practice short game shots are at the range, I live in an apartment nowhere to practice shots. Just wondering what types of practice drills I should use? Any help would be appreciated

For short game, try to get in some short sessions en route to other things. If you can stop and putt for 15 minutes on the way to work (when it's warmer), or chip for a half hour after work, these focused sessions can combine to build up your short game. A local course probably wouldn't mind, as long as you play there on a regular basis.

Also, putting before work - at least pre-summer - is something you can do without getting all sweaty, or needing to change to golf shoes.

If you're a former varsity athlete, don't think that you need a 2-hour workout before you can "accomplish" something. In golf, picking up the clubs frequently can help you keep your hands warm , which is what short game is all about.

Also, do you have room for a 10-15 foot putting mat in your apartment?

Focus, connect and follow through!

WUTiger is right, just repition. My local golf course has a seperate putting/chipping green for free use, and Im religious about practicing for half an hour or so when Im at their driving range.

A) Putting
1) distance control
2) hitting a straight 1-10 foot putt

B) Chipping
1) practice making solid contact
2) distance control from 5 yards - 20 yards so that this distance is repeatable on the course and can be judge by the length of your backswing
3) direction

C) Pitching
1) solid contact
2) distance control 20 yards - 100 yards

D) Equipment
1) how many wedges do you carry?
2) learn what distances for each club
3) trying hitting pitches with your PW or 9 iron

E) Score
1) keep records of your putts and up and downs to one putt
2) know what needs the mosts work? Putting, chipping or pitch shots

F) Practice location
1) driving range, hit shot within 100 yards
2) open grassy field
3) nearby golf course with practice area

G) Practice time
1) 90% of your time practicing on short game

H) Helpful video that helped my game below
1) Better pitching
2) Short game
3) Putting

I would also agree, in the spring when I am getting back into the swing of things, I might go to a driving range once or twice but will go to the putting and chipping green 4 or 5 times a week. When golf is in full swing I rarely if ever go to a driving range but will go to the practice putting green on a regular basis. IMHO, you can get back you full swing just by playing, but the short game takes practice.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?
