I currently like my AP2's but tend to hit the ball too high with the shorter irons and miss the traditional look & feel of blades. What do you think of keeping my AP2 3-6 and ordering 7-PW in the new MB's. Do you think I'd have any issues - I know they wouldn't blend as well as say CB's and MB's but I think it would work pretty well for me.

I like the higher ball flight with the long irons but the heavy head weights of the shorter irons just flight the ball way too high for my liking and I struggle with distance control. I was much more accurate with the shorter irons in my old 735.CMs.

dont let the looks bother ya...i played with a guy last winter who was a single digit (like a 3-5, not 8-10) that had hybrids to the 5 iron in taylormade rescues, then he had MP-32's from 6-9, with cleveland cg12's for wedges with a cameron putter...random arse bag but if it gets the job done who cares? ...go for it if it works for your game...

They're not that far off (lookswise). Imagine these blends:

- Cleveland TA1 short irons with VAS mid-irons, and Launcher long irons. - Callaway Bobby Jones short irons, Diablo mid irons and early BB long irons - PING S59 short irons, Eye2 mid irons and Zing long irons?

Would there be a big yardage gap between the 6 and 7 irons though since they're different irons?

That'd be my only problem with that idea

Honestly I don't think so. I've played forged blades before an my yardages were within a couple yards of where the current Ap2's are. I hit my 7 iron 165-170 with blades and I hit my 7 iron the same with AP2's so I think distance should be the same. I just ordered the MB PW to replace my AP2 PW that I've hit like crap since the moment I got it so I'm gonna see how that goes and then I'll buy 7-9 if the PW experiment goes well.

Do you have the basic Project X 6.0 shafts? If so, you might consider reshafting 7-PW with...

* Project 6.0 Flighted - flighted short iron shafts would lessen the trajectory of the ball, and possibly stabilize distance. * DG S300 - These shafts have a high kickpoint/flexpoint, which makes for lower trajectory. Don't know if mixing shafts would create a distance bunch-up or a large gap from 6i to 7i. Can anyone with Project X flighted shafts help us on this? (P.S. I'm interested in this question more from the standpoint of PX 5.0 vs. DG R200.)

The PX Flighted might help but from talking to the Titleist rep at the demo day it was more the mass of the tungston in the head of the AP2 causing the higher ball flight than the shaft. I hit them (in a 6 iron) with DG X100's and it knocked the flight down some but I liked the feel of th PX better and loved the thought of a higher flight in longer irons so I went that route. I thought about just getting X100's put in shorter irons but Im' not crazy about mixing up the shafts on an iron set.

Unfortunately I need to hit the AP2 7 iron next to the MB 7-iron with the same shafts and check out the ball flight but it's hard to do that (especially with X flex shafts). I guess my dilemma is more would the change in shafts to DG in my Ap2s or changing the heads to MB's with PX cause more of an issue and I'm not sure there's an easy way to figure it out. If you go on Titleist's website they have a pretty cool chart of where all the iron shafts rank based on launch and spin. It shows the flighted PX being a pretty high launch compared to the standard PX and the DG, with the DG bing the lowest flight lowest spin of the bunch.

I just ordered the set in my sig. I almost ordered the 710 CB/MB combo but went with the ap1/ap2 combo and had them adjust the lofts of the ap1's to mirror a full ap2 set... You will be able to do the same if you order yours.
