I am curious as to how moving the ball forward or back in your stance affects the spin and the trajectory of the ball. It seems that if moved forward the ball will go higher and impart a slicing spin while moving it back gives you a lower flight and a hooking spin.

In regards to the spin.

Would it be because you are impacting the ball more from the inside-out when it is back farther in the stance and by the time you are hitting it when forward in the stance you are then cutting across it? Common sense would tell you that your clubface would be closer to square at impact if the ball was farther forward in the stance and more open when placed back in your stance.

Trajectory....

Here is where I get a little confused. I assume that the reason the ball flyes higher with a forward placement is because it is struck on the upswing..... WITH A DRIVER. What about with irons? Wouldnt you have already hit the ground before on the upswing with irons?

Trajectory....

If you hit the ball straight (or, perhaps better said, if both balls start at the same point in the distance), a ball struck further back in the stance will have to be more closed and thus have less loft on the club.

Generally speaking, yes, a ball further forward will fade while one further back will draw. But you can manipulate the effective "ball position" by changing where your hands are, too.

I must be backwards because I like to fade the ball with it back in my stance, and draw it with the ball more forward. This is true for my swing because the consistency at which the club goes through the impact zone. If the ball is back, the club face is coming into the ball open to the target line..... fade for me. When the ball is forward, the club has passed square and is starting to turn over..... draw for me. I can do it the traditional way as well, but my was is much more consistent for me. I understand it's weird and "all wrong" but I don't question something that works so well.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

Explain how you would change the ball position with your hands.

Several things contribute to the location of the swing arc on the ground. Hand position is one of them. If the handle is back a bit further, the club starts moving back to the inside a bit sooner. Typically. If you want a bigger draw you get your hands further forward. Typically.
