Hi guys, first post...good to meetchya.

alright, a few years ago i bought a set of Adams GT2 irons. they were a great value and i like them exept for the fact that they are very offset. i do not want or need offset clubheads, i do not have any slicing problems and i struggle with a pull or a hook if anything. so they really just dont fit my game. so this makes me wonder if it would be better for me to buy a "new set of irons".

So i have been looking online for a "new" set of clubs online. Now im getting my taxes back but am not gonna spend it all on golf clubs, tho i wish i could. the less i can spend, the best. i saw some used titleist dci irons for under 100 bucks, some lilttle bit newer (very little bit) titleist irons for like 120 bucks or so, then some much newer irons for around 300 dollars.

So would i be better off with my current irons that dont seem to fit my swing or getting a cheaper used set of irons that are less offset? And anybody have any suggestions on those old titleist irons, or where to find some nice cheap irons that may be effective? Thanks

The best option, is to get fitted clubs. You can buy a set of nice, forged irons, or even high quality cast ones, and get them fitted. I got my Nikes for just $140, believe it or not. It cost me 0$ to have them bent 2° upright, best golf purchase ever.

Snake eyes might be an option. You could buy them built or build them yourself. The one Snake eyes 7 iron I have is very impressive.

I just bought a set of Mizuno MP-30s off eBay for $107 - 3-PW and the 7 iron is the only one with the chrome worn (grooves still sharp). I love these irons and for the price I feel like I stole them...
In the bag:
905R 9.5° - UST ProForce V2 65R
909F2 15.5° Titleist Diamana 75
909H 19° Titleist Diamana 80
Zing 2 3-PW Vokey SM48.08 @ 51° Vokey SM56.11 Unitized Leo

Welcome, glad you posted...

Definitely get rid of those clubs, no need to force yourself to use clubs that don't fit your swing.....go test a few different models, see what fits your eye.....when you find a set you like, check all the typical used sources for a good deal.....also, you might find a new set on sale....just take your time, test them out, and ultimately get the clubs you want and those that work for your game...

Lots of good suggestion. My 2 cents is Mizuno MP 60's can be had for a very good price. Titleist are also very good. There really hasn't been a real dramatic change in irons since the advent of cb's, so don't worry about the older stuff not being up to snuff b/c they are. The shaft is probably the most important part of the club and a fitting is well worth the money. Heck, during the good weather my gamers are a old set of 78 Wilson Staff Tour blades I love and have reshafted. I have them 1-pw and will put the 1 iron in the bag for a couple of courses here in Portland Or, but usually play the 2-pw.

If you have a golf galaxey or golfsmith around you, go and hit different irons to get an idea of what they feel like and what set up best for you.

    • Day 297: putted for about 25 minutes, working on 30 foot putts. Then went and hit balls for about an hour, just focused on getting the ball to go where I want it. Not my best session, but figured it out better at the end.
    • I do use a 7 wood. Love it! Do have a specific question about 7 woods?
    • @DrizZzY does. 😄
    • does anybody still use a 7 wood? if not what do you use instead>
    • Day (2 May 24) - somehow I missed posting both Tues and Weds practice sessions - so the streak ends and a new one begins…. Focus today was on ball first contact using the Divot Board for reference.   Worked with 7i, 9i and GW hitting hard foam balls.  Started hap hazardly and then settled back into my pre-shot setup.  Much more consistent in the latter.
