OK, so the economy has challenged a few of us more than we'd like I want to start competing again, but I just cannot justify the $$$ nor can I afford it right now. With that being said, I was thinking of setting up a Poor Man's Tour. It will be an informal, low-tech opportunity for those that would like to compete. There is no membership fee, and other than paying green fees, the only cost will be $5 put in the kitty each week for those that want to be included. We will establish a tourney handicap - once you qualify, the winner of the week simply takes in the kitty, which will be just enough to cover their fees and maybe dinner. The plan is just to get 10-20 people that want to meet new folks and compete in a relaxed event. I am still working on rule ideas (USGA, maybe a small twist for pace of play) and a mock schedule. Many folks work 5-6 days a week (Saturdays), so I figured shooting for Sunday afternoons at 2pm. You hit twilight for cheaper course rates, and religious folks have time for church (and the party crowd can recover from their hangover).

I'll take zero money from this (unless I win one weekend ) - the intention is just to put something together for foliks that maybe cannot afford some of the larger fee tours, but would still like to compete in a fun handicapped event.

I came up with a quick mock schedule - it's just local courses, many of which have very reasonable rates:

LB Houston - March 7th
Tenison Glen - March 21st
Cedar Crest - April 4th
Stevens Park - April 18th
Twin Wells - May 2nd
Sherrill Park Course 1 - May 16th
Bear Creek East - May 30th
Iron Horse - June 13th
Riverchase - June 27th
Riverside - July 11th
Grapevine Municipal - July 25th
Lakes at Firewheel - August 8th
Sherrill Park Course 2 - August 22nd
Great Southwest - September 5th
Bear Creek West - September 19th
Old Course at Firewheel - October 3rd
Tour Championship - Tenison Highlands - October 17th

I am open to any ideas. I want to keep it inexpensive, fun, and competetive. Also, keep it low tech. Oh, will have players keep score, Fairways, and GIR. I will track all this stuff for free, just simple excel stuff for the players.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Jason

the golfq website has discounted T times in the DFW area, but does anyone know of a golf card that works on the weekends?
The AG passbook is mostly for rounds M-->Th The American Cancer Society has stopped their golf passbook.
The best I coud find was the 8 rounds for $98 at either keeton, lbj, tenison glen, and steven's park http://golfindallas.net/golf/proto/g...promotions.htm

something else to mention, most courses around here will offer a discount if you can gaurantee a larger number of people and block out a portion of their tee sheet, especially if you schedule to come more than once. Ive seen as much as $10 off a round when 15 or more people were coming together. For example if you scheduled both courses at Sherrill Park, 2 or more courses at Firewheel, etc. we could probably get a good deal thrown together. Im happy to help with some of that fenagling if needed

if we do end up with a large number of participants, it wouldnt be a bad thing to offer up some of the pool for charity as well. With a specific charity in mind, courses are more willing to help out with the planning so that they too can be involved with the cause. just a thought, may be more than you were intending

There is something like this here in San Antonio. You can contact them and get advice on how to start all this. Good luck

Iron Thong Golf

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

Count me in as well. This sounds right up my (limited budget) alley.

When you pick the first Sunday, please include me in the invite:
