Being from Wisconsin, a place where snow is plentiful, golf is generally somewhat considered a seasonal outdoor sport. The season basically ranges from the first spring thaw until that first snowfall around wintertime when courses close. However, many times courses will have an "Artic Open" and play a winter/snow round with blaze orange golf balls, etc.

With the upcoming season readilly approaching and spring fever starting to build, what are you most looking forward to for the 2010 season? Are you looking forward to testing out that new driver or putter you got for Christmas on the course? Have you been practicing at indoor ranges to battle Hole #8 at your favorite course, which no matter how well you are playing, you always seem to do the worst on this hole and settle for a bogey or double bogey? Or maybe your simply looking forward to getting out there on that nice spring day with the birds chirping and spring smells in the air, after you played hooky from work deciding to walk your local course?

WHAT ARE YOU ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Personally, I'm looking forward to it all, trying some new equipment and getting golf fever. Sorry, honey...it's golf season. I'll be home in time for dinner. Good luck everyone! See you out there!

I've been struggling with my desire to hit the range EVERY day. I've settled in to a once-a-week deal with it for now because I don't want to get myself TOO worked up. First tournament for me will be March 28th this year. So, a little under six weeks to go until I get to jump on the course... that's IF this snow stops hitting Jersey and begins to melt.

Thing I'm looking forward to the most is trying to recapture what I had going for me towards the end of last season.

being from Minnesota I am getting that itch to play. I am looking forward to playing golf with my favorite foursome (my dad, and two of old high school teammates). I really am looking forward to playing with my buddies form SJU. One of them is the defending state champ, and I want to practice with him and see if I can make the team next fall. Playing in a lot of tournamnets is my main goal. Since graduating in '09 I have yet to play in a big event. I can't wait for this season to start!

I would like to be able to score better instead of hitting a bunch of good shots and shooting mid 80's. It seems last season I hit some great shots but still couldn't score any better than I did in '08. Maybe I've hit that wall...

Of course, I've had major hip pain that has gotten worse and worse since last summer, so it may be tough this year until I get it fixed (after the season, of course )

I'm looking forward to beating you for once, and as far as Hole #8, you didn't seem to have too much trouble with that one last year, me on the other hand...

Looking forward to actually playing. I've been to the range a couple of times but only played 2 rounds since the beginning of October.

The weather has been awesome, too. I can't use that as an excuse...just had a lot of other things going on.

Looking forward to getting out on a course with some friends and hearing the light trash-talking and challenges.

Im looking foreward to just getting out and playing golf again. Ive got plenty of things to keep me occupied during winter (hockey, snowmobiling and ice fishing), so I tend to not even really think about golf all that much until mid March comes around and the season for those activies is winding down.
Ive made some changes to my bag over the winter months (replaced the hybrid with a 2-iron, replaced a set of Mizuno MX-15 irons with Titleist DCI 981s, got a new putter) and Im looking foreward to useing my new clubs.
Im also looking foreward to moving my game foreward. Last season my handicap dropped from 30 to 12 and Im hoping to make it to single digits this year. This year I want to work on learning to hit my 3-wood well and with being more precise on the distance of my wedge shots. Those are the things that are holding my game back right now.
All in all, Im just looking foreward to the season starting again. By about mid March I start to get tired of winter and look foreward to spring.

    • Jesus, when he keeps saying scissoring moment, ugh that is a horrible sounding phrase. Just makes me cringe. It doesn't help my mind went to Mr. Garrison from South Park. 🤣 If you know you know.  I think for the most part, golf shaft companies have gotten this figured out. They ask questions like, what tempo do you swing at. The whole scissor terminology sounds like they want to stand out a bit.  Yea, golfers load the golf shaft differently, and different bend profiles can help out. I do think swing speed matters as well. You probably want a golf shaft with lower torque if you swing faster.
    • Played 9 holes, shot a 39.  Kind of got around. Everything between the trees, so in play. Short game was rusty. Got to get back on that. Greens were stupidly slow because they got a lot of rain yesterday and probably couldn't cut them down. Usually in the summer they are firm and pretty fast for how sloped they are. Got to work on face to path a bit.
    • We agree here. Top of the car has a forward force, bottom of the car experiences a backward force via the braking. Both about the COM (somewhere in between). Result is a rotational flip. Since the forward force is still higher the car probably still globally travels forward. Sure, pretty basic. You really think there are deliberate twist forces applied? Like forcing the club head forward and simultaneously forcing grip end in the opposite direction? Heck I don't think we even slow down the grip end deliberately let alone force it the other way. Sorry, if I am missing something here. The orientation change is simple incidental because there is different rate of global movement of grip vs. clubhead throughout the swing. I also happen to think the best swings have the least amount of differential movement between the two end in the impact zone.  In my defense, I never thought one could do justice in covering all aspects of a golf swing in a paragraphs or two to begin with. Especially not with grade school physics..😜 Okay.
    • Wow, @DeadMan that is such a helpful breakdown of what’s around. Really excited to check a bunch of these out. Thank you. Will definitely go to Walnut Creek. Will also try and get a commonground tee time. Haven’t played many Doak courses yet! If your schedule frees up, let me know!
    • Yeah. I'm not sure what Vishal is really talking about with the "constrained" COM. The club's COM doesn't really change much. Less than the body's does… We definitely apply force to the golf club to move it both translationally (linear force) and rotationally (torque) to the golf club. That's what Manzella's alpha/beta/gamma is all about. Even before they switched the reference frame from the global to the club-based one. 😉
