I have been away from the game for almost 10 years. Back surgery. Recently decided to try again. I need a pair of shoes. Most all the shoes I see are soft spikes. Are steel spikes not allowed any more? Is it up to the discreation of the course? Thanks for the help. cayrbee

Pretty much 100% of all courses you'll find are soft-spike only these days.

Is it possible to replace my old steel spikes with the new funky ones?

Most rubber spikes use a different thread than the old steel spikes. You'll likely need to buy new shoes.

Broke down & bought a new pair.

So what did you buy? Last October I bought a pair of Adidas 360's. Those are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. The first day I got them I walked 18 holes and no blisters or anything. In April I bought a pair of Dry Joys because they were on sale. They hurt for about 4 rounds.

I work in a Pro Shop and I replace cleats all the time and I've not seen steel spikes in quite a spell. They damage floors and alot of times greens are damaged when folks drag their feet. I think they are history for sure.

    • I've been putting whilst looking at the hole and it's definitely helped my distance control
    • I wonder if that is why my home course basically have no stakes now.  Not even markers.  It’s completely up to golfers to remember what is OB and hazard and how things used to be marked.     Even in tournaments, there is no marking and certain areas are played differently by different golfers who either don’t know better or use it to their advantage funny reading thru this with courses that actually have markers
    • is it though?????? "Millions of fans"?????
    • Great post, thanks for the informaiton. I try to avoid adding salt to anything I eat. I tend to add pepper on to my meals as opposed to salt. And I am trying to eat as clean on possible. On golf day, I eat 3 eggs for breakfast (pepper NO salt) and a salad for lunch, with grilled chicken thigs (pepper, garlic, no salt). I have been trying to avoid processed food, but we all slip. I also should have mentioned that the electrolyte packet calls for mixing with 16 oz of water, however I mix in 32 oz of water, so I dilute the electrolyte powder.
    • So if I read the news correctly, the PIF will not fund LIV after this season.  LIV is trying to find new funding and a number of players there are now asking about getting back to the Tour.    I am very, very concerned that Taylor Gooch will not have a place where he can make a jackass out of himself soon
