After a short break over the winter, my short game is just terrible, and my memory isn't holding up on one part of the pitches.

When I'm like on hard ground/ just plain hard fairway grass and i'm pitching about 20 yards, am I supposed to use wrist at all? Because I keep chunking and getting under the ball, both when i'm using wrist and when i'm not. Help?

As as you're not "starting up trouble again"! I would go with as little wrist as possible ala Steve Stricker. This will serve to keep the bounce working correctly and deter the leading edge from getting stuck in the turf. make sure you use a PW too and not an LW of some sort.

Ah, that's probably the problem. I've been using a sand wedge.

On another note, when should I be using the sand wedge? when it's lying up and i need it to go high?

When I hit pitches, I adopt a sort of pseudo-S&T; swing. I don't use much wrist hinge, unless I need to hit a spinner, and I make sure my weight is forward so I clip the ball off the turf.

i always make sure to keep my hands in front of the clubface. when you do that, it's damn near impossible to chunk it.
