I have recently been suffering from a bad neck which I believe has been mainly caused by playing an excessive amount of golf. Since golf is such an unatural movement for the human body, I understand that it must put a degree of strain on various parts of the body. I waqs interested to know whether anyone else has suffered any long term golfing injuries in the past, especially bad necks and backs. :)

I don't know how old you are? But If you carry your bag it is easy to irritate the bursa in your neck. If the condition persists for more than a couple of weeks it is definitely Dr. visit time. Untreated neck injuries tend to become arthritic and become chronic very easily.

I am 15, and used to carry my bag. I now pull a trolley due to the bad neck and have been to see an osteopath who has told me that the top of my spine is out of line and he has now straightened it out. I am still in a lot of pain due to this manipulation and cannot play at the moment.

Nothing long term. Thankfully.

My father has back problems that I haven't inherited, yet. He did a lot of construction work in the summers that caused it though. The only back problem I have now is Sciatica . It only comes every couple months and I just pop some ibuprofen when it does. The worst I had it was last January...it was really, really painful for a week or so. The good thing is that it doesn't affect my golf game and that standing up and walking seem to help it a lot. I had one of my best rounds of golf during one of my worst episodes of Sciatica last year.

Fairways and Greens.

Hmmmm, where do I start. I am 58 and have played a lot in the 6 years since I started playing. I have problems with both elbows intermittently, I have arthritis in both hands, I have a chronic problem with the connective tissue in my chest wall that acts up. My feet are a wreck. Sometimes I can hardly walk if I have played and then rested for a while. My feet and legs tighten up to the point it is painful just to put weight on them.

I will never give up this game. I refuse to allow a body that has chosen to fail little by little to keep me from doing something I truly love. I do not expect to ever be pain free, but I do expect to continue to push myself and my body to perform like it always has before. I believe giving in to the pain would be the start down a slippery slope towards total incapacitation.

    • Congrats on the new leg of your journey - the challenge of learning something new while dealing with Parkinson’s is totally awesome.
    • Played several holes today with my Buddy's left haded clubs.  I was going to order just woods, but after playing again today and hitting the irons well, I will be ordering a complet set of Left handed Clubs.    They are Callaway Edge, Regular flex.  I am excited !  Will let you know after I try them and let you know how well they performed.    Retired Old Man, Terry
    • Depends in part on what lie the greens crew left me. If it's first cut of rough or fairway and clear shot to cup, it's an 8i chip and run. If it's shaggy, or I have to go over ridge or bunker, it's a cut shot with a 58* LW.
    • Throw a stick down in almost every range session.
    • Day 358: Played 18. Incredible psycho scorecard but finished +5. Also completed the birdie challenge. And the no 6s challenge, for that matter. Was not my best ball striking or driving round, but was able to hit enough good shots to make a few birdies and scrape it around.
