First-round 77. Likely won't make the cut. The leader(s?) shot 64 - 13 shots better.

I hope it's a good learning experience. She's currently 4th on the Futures Tour money list, and may earn her way to the LPGA anyway.

It was obvious that nerves got to her in a big way yesterday. I still think she's got pretty decent game -- a couple of wins on the Futures Tour are testament to that. But she definitely wasn't playing like she had nothing to lose. She was more along the lines of, "Holy Crap, now I've got to prove myself." And we all know that's not exactly conducive to good golf.

Ol' Keg-Legs will be fine though. I think she'll eventually get on tour and be a solid journeyman. She really is a pretty solid ball-striker. Her putting stroke's iffy, though. And it's obvious her mental game's gonna need a little work.

I gotta wonder if that was a good idea for her to play. In the position she currently holds on the futures tour a week off might hurt her position. If she misses getting her card by one spot they'll be alot of coulda shoulda woulda goin on in her head.

I bet the Golf Channel would've disowned her and tied her down the basement of the Golf Channel studios along with Peter Kessler and made up a story...

but I'm getting carried away

Was the Futures Tour playing this week? Yeah, ok, in Maryland.

Personally, I think the experience gained playing on the LPGA Tour far outweighed any possible slip in the earnings. Even if it took her an extra year to get to the LPGA Tour, now, she will be better prepared when she gets there and know more what to expect.

Besides, it had to be a contractual obligation as the Big Break Winner to play in the Safeway... it was part of the prize package after all. TGC had to drum up interest for this stop...

I mean, let's face it, the only reason we're even talking about the tournament is the Prange Factor.

This thread begs a question. Has any Big Break winner ever become a regular on a PGA/LPGA/European Tour?

No. But they've only had five. And they don't exactly pick people who are even really Nationwide-Tour quality players.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
