So I've been fighting the hook a lot recently. I was at the range today hitting my 6i and trying to figure things out. A buddy who'd been fighting the same thing said that, paradoxically, focusing on making a nice line to the inner rear quarter of the ball actually helped his hook. This worked on my 3w off the tee, but only succeeded in letting me alternate between straight pushes and big hooks.

So at the range I realized something and I was wondering what it's fixing, or if I'm even probably really even doing it or it's just a swing thought that's fixing some other problem. I felt like I was coming at the ball too low, and either yanking my shoulders left (I'm a righty) to take my swing plane from slightly inside to straight or slightly outside while snapping the face closed. I tried keeping a little taller through the downswing and suddenly started hitting some great shots: slight push, slight draw, and even a bunch 5-10 yards further than normal. Of course, it wasn't consistent, as new mechanics never are.

I found that the that helped me was to rise a tiny bit at the start of my downswing. A lot of the inconsistency came from the fact that this often led me to yank my left shoulder up, leading to pulls and hooks, but if I thought of pushing my left hip up a bit, it left a nice open path to the ball from the inside and I was hitting nice push draws instead of push or straight starting hooks. Does this make sense?

I know it's hard without video, but anyone ever found something like this helpful?
